Bethesda have issued another statement after they had said they are doing all they can to get Skyrim's DLC Dawnguard running smoothly on the system. The update isnt a positive one for PS3 owners unfortunately as Bethesda are still struggling to get things working.

It's been a few weeks, and we wanted to make sure everyone knows where we're at with Dawnguard. Skyrim is a massive and dynamic game that requires a lot of resources, and things get much more complex when you're talking about sizable content like Dawnguard.
We have tried a number of things, but none of them solve the issue enough to make Dawnguard good for everyone. The PS3 is a powerful system, and we're working hard to deliver the content you guys want. Dawnguard is obviously not the only DLC we've been working on either, so the issues of adding content get even more complicated. This is not a problem we're positive we can solve, but we are working together with Sony to try to bring you this content.

Before this annoucement Bethesda had reassured PS3 owners that the PS3 version of Dawnguard has not been delayed due to the forthcoming update Hearthfire. However it also raises questions about any of the big DLC packs being released on PS3 in future.

For all this waiting the PS3 owners better at least get a discount on it, and if all fails then Bethesda needs to greatly compensate.. which I'm sure they will, but hopefully it won't just be a free Hearthfire download 'cause that's not going to cut it.

I'm very sure this wouldn't have happened had Bethesda not focused on getting the Xbox version out first. And now they've gone ahead and announced that Hearthfire will be out on the Xbox first, again...

First the incredible lag and bugs, now the likelihood of no dlc. Bethesda must hate PS3 owners...

That was a deal that was done with Microsoft some time ago. Bethesda have really struggled to get most of their titles running smoothly on the PS3.

I heard of this deal. But its not doing Bethesda much help at the moment. They might as well go exclusive on the PC and Xbox, but of course, that would enrage many.

With the Xbox SDK being very close to the PC tools I just think they need to employ some more people who are familiar with Sonys SDK. They need to design the PS3 versions differently as the ports to it always seem to have technicial issues, whereas ports between PC and 360 for the most part seem to be fine.

Or maybe better, go only PC exclusive and give the middle finger to console plebs.

Going exclusive is one thing for Bethesda to do. Going PC exclusive... is just harsh... The majority of Bethesda's market are the consoles, so yeah... But I can see Bethesda going Microsoft exclusive if things with Sony don't work out. I've seen the Sony SDK, and it is goddamn complex next to the Xbox's.

And stupid.

I really hope Sony does themselves some good favors and learns their lesson with the PS3's structure so as to not repeat it all over again with PS4. So much potential yet largely unrealized because many developers can't wrap their heads around it, comparable even to learning a new language it seems.

Yet you forget how the current structure has brought many great PlayStation titles? Just because developers prefer Microsoft's tools, it doesn't mean that Sony has to play their game.

I didn't forget, that's why I said many and not all. Sony shouldn't have to rely most of the time on their 1st party devs, Square-Enix, or Konami to showcase the true capabilities of the PS3, if they want to dominate the market again like they used to then they ought to at least make their tools more accessible. The Sega Saturn is a testament of why not to have a frustratingly difficult to use structure because it can drive away devs or often produce subpar results.

Even though the game on 360 outsold both PC and PS3 easily? PC actually sold the least despite it obviously having the most advantages and being the best version. So wouldnt be a very good business decision to go down that road.

I say work with Sony, and if they can't get any dlc up on PSN by October, then screw the PS3 and go Microsoft exclusive (360 and PC).

Actually, thinking about it, it doesn't matter if they go exclusive to any of the consoles now, because of how close the end of this console generation is. So, they should just finish up whatever they have in store for Skyrim, then move to a next-gen project, and hope that the SDK for the PS4 is easier to understand.
