  • Not really. I'm just trying to say that just because cricket is popular in India doesn't give Baseball's popularity more merit.

No, both Australian teams. But our NRL has teams from New Zealand. Would you call that a domestic league? I would. New Zealand is like our Canada, only much, MUUUUCH moreso.

Cheers, I'll keep that in mind if I get the chance.

Something can be too complicated, you know.

Naw, I understand that fine. Probably the infield fly rule is more of an equivelant, but powerplays are way less complicated.
First of all, it's not popular because of India. It's just popular in India. Baseball on the other hand, is popular because of the USA. And second of all, the Commonwealth games is the Olympics' retarded, inbred cousin.

Ok, then AFL isn't domestic because we played a preseason game in Dubai.

Yeah, basically. I'm going to look at going to a good University over here and getting on an exchange program or something.

But you've still got action. It's strategy PLUS action.

It is, really. Either team has to pick a time when they want to restrict the fielding team to two fielders in the outfield for five consecutive overs (6 balls each). They both have to be taken, so if we get to the final ten overs, and neither of them have been used, then they both automatically get used for the last ten overs. Using a powerplay generally makes the batting play big shots, because they've got less chance of being caught out with only two fielders in the outfield. The fielding team will use it to make them less defensive, and get more chance of getting a wicket, and the batting team will use it to get runs easily.
Ok, so it was a flawed line of argument. Ii doesn't change the fact that Cricket is more popular that Baseball.

I wasn't going anywhere with it. I was just curious. STOP BEING SO PARANOID.

It just goes to show that Cricket is a more well established (syntax?) game. You can't say that baseball is a world game when the premier competition is a domestic one.

I'm just not into women that can beat me up. We've been through this though.

Thanks for the info, I guess. I probably wont use it though, I was more curious than anything.

And yeah, there's a lot more freedom of where do go, which makes for a lot more interesting fielding, considering the level of strategy that can be used.

But in One Day games, there are fielding restrictions. For instance, you can only have two outfield fielders for the first 10 overs, and you've got these things called "Power Plays". Each team gets one power play, that they have to use, which reinstates fielding restrictions for five overs. It sounds complicated, but it's really simple. Really.
My summer is wonderful, lots of company, and gaming on xbox live. ^_^
Glad to hear you are in college, study hard, and get your degree. ;)
    Yes. Yes, you did.

(I can't think of any sort of witty remark, so I'm sticking with that.)
Ok, so we'll just arbitrarily exclude all the countries that make your argument look bad.

I see. Does it happen a lot?

The fact that up until several years ago international competition was an ameteur sport. You can hardly call Baseball a world game when it has a track record like that.

There's still something offputting about it.

And in the interests of having a non-argument conversation with you, do you know any good music colleges in the US? I'm thinking about trying get into one.
Just because Cricket is popular in India, doesn't mean that's the only place it's popular. Also, keeping in line with our immensely inaccurate level of gauging support for each sport, I've added up the populations of the countries that you've mentioned as playing Baseball, and the ones that play cricket, and excluding India, the numbers are basically the same. 500 million or so each.

Out of curiosity, if the ball hit's the edge of the bat, but the ball is only deflected slightly, and is cought by the keeper (The fielder who stands behind the batsman to catch stray balls. I don't know the actual name for the baseball equivelant.), is it out?

If international competition is as competetive as you say, then why is it still so unattractive? As far as I see, it has got to do with it either not being as popular as you say in those countries which play it, or Americans not caring about anywhere other than their own country.

That just shows me how far it is behind Cricket as a world game.

We've been over this before, but I'm not really into muscly women. Fit women, yeah, but ones who's muscles you can see just turns me off.

I am shocked that you'd think I'd use it for anything other than covering it in yogurt (if I was a God I'd like yogurt to be given to me as a blessing.)
    Worship worship worship.

I have a golden statue of you in my bedroom, you know, oh great deity from beyond the Heavens.
Cricket and Baseball have been around for approximately the same amount of time. Why is one sport only popular in America, when the other is popular around the world?

In Soccer, I think you'll find a lot of people care a lot about the domestic teams. They care about both a lot. That's why soccer gets the title of the world game, because it's popular everywhere. Is the reason people care more about MLB than test matches, because international matches are only competetive between one or two teams?

Incidentally, I saw a bit of baseball on Letterman last night. Some guy from a team called the Cardinals, I think. They had Dennis Leary pitching to him in the street. It was entertaining.
We've completely moved out, but we just let mummy think we'll just do what she says. Most of the people in this country want to change into a proper Republic, anyways. It's just that all our politicians are really conservative, even our liberals (or especially our Liberals? The Liberal Party here is ironically the conservative one).

Listen, I know a lot about America from all the American media we get here. I know more about America than I do about Australia. I can name more American Presidents than Australian Prime Ministers. I know more about Baseball because of this, than you do about Cricket. That's the reason why baseball is more popular here than it should be. But doesn't the fact that people would still rather watch Cricket, when they have the option to watch both equally, tell you something?

If it was the one about America's postwar influence over Japan, then yes.

If Baseball was as big as cricket, then you'd be having internation tests in the same way. Don't try to tell me it's about the culture of the game. That's a thin smokescreen.

    I do what I can.
Yeah, cancer is no joke, hate it. It's cooled down over here, in the low 70s right now with a small breeze.. not bad at all, and it's good enough to just relax in the backyard with the cats.

Did they have a tie-breaker for the game?

Also, how are you enjoying it here in Ohio, been to Cedar Point yet?
Just because we haven't cut off ties with the motherland doesn't mean we're not independent. Everyone knows the Monarchy holds no political power in the UK, let alone in foreign territories.

Yeah, and the fact that Baseball cant dislodge Cricket in several countries which are dominated by American media is a testament to Cricket's superiority.

I've dropped that point for not knowing enough about it.

But is it the culture that's meant that you don't have massive international competitions, or has the fact that you don't have massive international competitions become part of the culture?

So maybe I'm being borderline racist. Sue me.

EDIT: Actually please don't sue me.
The weather is beautiful here a lot of times, but it was pretty lousy yesterday and a bit today. The air is so thick so it's a bit difficult to breathe out there.

Sad to know what happened to your little sister, Walker. I lost a few close relatives to cancer as well, it sucks (plus my dog died last night). Happy Birthday to your little sister.

How's the tournament going, is she on the winning end?
You just proved my point. The MLB is the premier baseball competition, and it's only really popular in much weaker countries that are within your's or Japan's sphere of influence. Admittedly, all Cricketing nations were once colonies of the UK, but it's grown beyond that. All of the UK's children have grown up and moved out, but they still play cricket.

What do you mean a difference in culture? I don't see how that makes it any less suited to international play.

    That's because they're all hispanic....
You just said that MLB steals players from all the places where it is supposedly popular. I just meant that if that happens, then they obviously don't have a strong enough system in place so that they can keep them for their own league.

But how often do you actually play international matches?

I still maintain that there are two separate continents.
Cheers with the rep.. Yes the video got frustrating with the people walking in front of the camera. I think it was actually some amateur not working for any game site video recording, so It isn't the best..

Despite that I'm still chuffed that Fable III was at Comic-Con, It's good to see comic fans and gamers together in one big place. You nether know we could see a Fable comic
