ShadowNet Crash Upon Startup in Windows 7

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate and when I try to open the ShadowNet build of FE, it gives me the standard "FableExplorer.exe has stopped working" bull ****.

Here are the specific details if anything helps.

Description:
Stopped working

I just double click the EXE and it gives me the error before the GUI even shows up. I have .NET 3.5 as it came with Windows 7, and I tried compatibility mode for Vista AND XP. I also have UAC disabled so I don't need to run it as admin.

Any ideas?

I just ran it as admin. No dice.

I also already have ownership over all of my Fable and SN files. D:

64bit? If so, that is the problem I'm afraid.

I'm just as lost as you are I'm afraid, sry I can't be any help. I heard many problems with Fable and its modding programs for Windows 7, which thankfully steered me away from it.

FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

If it is a 7 issue itself, I'll just install XP on my other HDD. I didn't really think there were any compatibility issues in 7 that weren't in Vista. D:

Well, the more technology progresses, the more the 'older' stuff becomes obsolete. Sadly system programmers don't really care much about all around compatibility from OS to OS, the just care about making things 'better' in their own opinion, which is why Vista is such a piece of ****.

Excuse my earlier rage, but seriously, what the hell? I've NEVER seen an error like that. EVER.

That's odd. I am currently running on Vista Home Premium and I don't get any errors with Fable or any programs I use like that, that is quite confusing. Maybe try downloading this: morerunes' Fable TLC Application Suite It has pretty much every modding program and installs any update needed for them. I really can't say if it will work, but I use every program from it and everything works just fine for me.

That's what I originally installed it with. >_<

Re: ShadowNet Crash Upon Startup in Windows 7

Well, I got the same error to pop up with my Vista when I tried running Fable while CBox was running (not save mods and run Fable, just straight up running). So I had to close CBox to run my Fable. Are you running any other programs with ShadowNet? Or just running ShadowNet and nothing else?

What about your Windows UAC? Is it enabled? That's the last thing I can think of that could be causing problems. All out of ideas, sry.

Re: ShadowNet Crash Upon Startup in Windows 7

Hmm, well I think switching back to XP is the way to go, im about to do so myself (losing hours upon hours of work, thankfully I have an 8G Flash Drive) im getting really sick of Vista, if I had 7 I think I would rage and throw my laptop at the microsoft corp building.

I 'think' I somewhat have an idea "doubt it will work" but you can go to your Windows Firewall, go to Inbound Rues, right click and select New Rule, select program, find the shadownet.exe and click 'block the connection' and you can always undo this if anything goes wrong. Like I said I doubt it will work, but it has worked for me on other programs before in the past.

EDIT: Scratch that, It definately won't work, thats for programs based off of an internet connection.

Yeah, I'll look for my XP installation disk later.

Last time I was part of the Fable modding scene, Chocolate Box didn't even exist. Shame I can't use the new tools (CBox won't work either >_<).

Aww, that sucks. CBox is amazing. I pretty much only use it for region editing though. One thing, DO NOT Load or Create .FMPs with CBox, it will cause it to crash, always use FE for .fmps

Re: ShadowNet Crash Upon Startup in Windows 7

Is it possible that a prerequisite was missed? Both OS's I've tried it on were complete fresh installs apart from having Fable/Firefox and the perquisites/tools included in morerunes' Fable TLC tool pack.

Is there anything most Windows users have that I might be missing?
