I think this was a good choice Steve - Rep was kinda pointless in the sense that it did nothing but add bars to your user area. Maybe something that would be worth adding is an award system, where you have contests and give out little user profile awards and such, I think it would be a great add-on to the forums but that's just my idea. It'd be pretty fun too, but like I said, just my idea and opinion there.

I didn't really care for the actual points; it was more the satisfaction of knowing that people liked/agreed with your post that mattered to me.

I've been at a few forums that have this, and it works. However, it also gives said award-winner something to brag about or feel special with, plus you get those who feel bad because they didn't win anything or never do. It may increase forum activity but at the expense of making this place feel like some sort of competition instead of a place for friends to come together and feel at home. But, I don't see it as being much different than having an 18-inch rep penis people wave around.

FYI: Your rep points are not lost. They're still there in the database and should the system be enabled again, then you'll just carry straight on with the exact same number of points you had beforehand. Also, it might make a return. I'd rather it didn't, but I explained why it might just be a temporary thing in my initial post.

This may sound incredibly sad, but the rep system was one of the reasons I liked ProjectEgo. Almost all the other forums I go to have it disabled because it was abused, but the fact you could only add to rep was perfect. I thought it was a great way to motivate not-so-great members to become better posters, and it worked great as a way to reward people for competitions between members etc. Of course we'd give out real awards, but alas - we don't have the permissions on the website to create working awards.

I can't see the rep system having that much impact on anything, especially if the rep points are still in the database. I can't see it making any kind of noticeable difference.

In short, I really want it back. A lot.

That's actually what I thought of doing, except I was going to put the names in a PM to myself. If I lived on my own and had my own fridge, I would totally do that. I'm not kidding. But I think if I did it now, my parents would walk by and go, "Hey Matt, what the hell is a CheezMcNASTY?"

I agree completely with DS on this matter, I can feel the order and enthusiasm on the forum slipping away already.

Also, I was hoping for a user-bar to do with rep. (Hence why it seemed so precious)

I'll admit to like the ego-stroking I got out of rep, but no, I don't miss it all that much. I didn't use it that much, but it was always nice to get a bit of recognition.

Thank you for the gentle manipulation of my gigantic ego, much-needed in the absence of rep, but it's definitely Sephi and Droded ahead of me. I've been here awhile, but I don't have much rep-- the vast majority came from the occasional entertaining greeting on somebody's intro thread or otherwise amusing comment.

Droded and Sephi, on the other hand, make useful contributions to the forums. Such as Servicing all the members, and running comic tournaments.
