Let me argue that point, briefly, since my half-assed example got some conflict going.

Honestly, I was just stating what I think they might or might not do, but okay.

The first point is valid, but I don't think it's insurmountable. I don't believe that the script was overly gender-specific, for one thing. For another, if we're lucky they're already bringing back the voice actors for the additional content. How hard is it to get Whisper's actress to re-dub "farmboy" as "farmgirl?" When you get right down to it?

I had a fast run through some of the quests this afternoon, after a nostalgia attack caused by the announcement of the remake, and I did get reminded that yes, the script isn't gender-specific and can easily be changed to suit a female character. However, if anyone wishes that they're going to bring back the voice actors for the new content, they will be sorely depressed at the lack of new content. This is from the Lionhead forums, from their "official" FAQ about Fable: Anniversary:

Q: Will there be new quests or content?

A: Our intention with Fable Anniversary was to re-capture the game that so many fell in love with and bring it up to date for a modern generation of console gamers. We think the story, quests and gameplay of the original game are what lead to it becoming a critically acclaimed title in 2004, and we've got no intention of changing or adding to that with Anniversary.

So, when Timmins said there might be new content, he might be completely wrong. Otherwise, Lionhead has a massive communication problem within themselves.

So with that bit alone, we KNOW there will be NO new features, like a gender choice, or multiplayer, unless whoever wrote this on the forums has exactly no idea what he's writing about...

Plus, nobody says YOU have to play a female Hero. Just that other people would like to, same as in Mass Effect or the later Fables.

I think I mentioned once in these forums that I prefer playing the female character, if given a choice. Had they added a gender choice to Anniversary, I would have played the male character first to relive the old days, but on my immediate second playthrough, I'd play the female character. Through all the Mass Effects, I played female before I even considered a male character (Jennifer Hale was just soooo good.)

Anyhow, that little extract from the Lionhead forums is going to dampen my moods a bit. At least for 3 hours, max.

I'm just going to ignore all this speculation and **** until it's actually on the verge of coming out...

Or try to. As it is now, there doesn't seem to be any real solid info.

The Lionhead forums like to call the above solid. Let's wait then, shall we?

Sorry, let me rephrase. I don't feel like making the effort to figure out which bits of info getting reposted here are accurate and which aren't, and I don't feel like spending a lot of time googling. I would much rather sit here in ignorance and hope that I'm going to get something I'd actually want to buy.

Secondly, is it going to release on Xbox 360 at launch? Absolutely! We have also heard lots of players asking about a PC version and all we can say is right now is that we’re only developing this for Xbox 360. We’re not ruling out a PC version, however nothing is in development at this time.

I can't post link to the source because I dont have 10 posts, but you can go over at lionhead dot com/fable-anniversary-faqs/ to see for your self.

I hope they just don't change it to the later game's controls. They said there would be a change in controls, and that scares me. Because combat in Fable 2 and Fable 3 was not only less versatile, it was also jagged feeling and the spells were better as hot-keys... Damn, If the controls are only minor, I'll love this. If they make my bow attacks just hitting the "Y" button, and my Magic hitting the "B' button, I'm gonna be ****ed.

If they release PC version... That would be the best thing that can happen this year on the gaming scene for me.

I'm VERY sure they're going to go with the Fable 2-3 button formula where melee is X, range is Y and magic B. Though, do not that this game is being made using Unreal 3, not the engine they used for Fable 2 and 3. So there may well be a different control scheme.

The Fable 2-3 control scheme was very easy to pick up, and the original scheme significantly harder to get used to, but the original, once you're used to it, was hells more fun.

Original Fable had the best controls. Simple, yet straight to the point. I am hoping Fable 4 would be either sequel for Fable TLC (before fable 2) or prequel. I just want lionhead to make a Fable game that is based on Fable TLC formula... why lionhead can't see that? I mean everybody loved fable tlc, and by loved I mean they really, really loved it. So why dont they listen to us? Take Fable TLC story line, game mechanics, art style and make a game everybody would love to play.

And no DO NOT MAKE multiplayer for it. Look what God of War series turned out to be, in fact very similar to Fable series.
First one was great (without a pinch of a doubt); Second one was meh.. not the best, but still good; Third one definitely could use some work on it; Fourth one... I'm not even going to talk about it.

I say, learn from the mistakes other studios make, don't just follow the idea you (dev. studio) think is great. How about you consult with fanbase? There is a lot of creative people that are/have been your loyal fans. This is 21st century, not all of us are 11 years old, there are people who are married and have kids and still play games and their opinion should be valuable to developers. Do we have to draw everything for you guys? Make a poll, ask a question, do a online live streams with community involved. It has never been easier to get in contact with people than it is today and it seems those very forums that studios use are as empty as ever (contact-wise).

Oh, you'd be surprised as to the number of times they've "listened" to their fans and changed their game accordingly.

Let's just say some fans have @#$% for brains. And they're the ones Lionhead listen to. Why do you think they shut their forums down after the backlash from Fable III's reception? I've been on their forums, and hell... some of them are just... urgh.

Hey! If they made an enjoyable couch co-op, I'd go for that. I continue to want nothing more than to hang out on the couch with my sister and hack-n-slash-and-spell my way through Albion. It's just that their execution in the past has been questionable.

The Fable 2-3 control scheme was very easy to pick up, and the original scheme significantly harder to get used to, but the original, once you're used to it, was hells more fun.

The Fable 2 control scheme was choppy and lazy. Melee Combat was alright, but the animations were too slow, and I much preferred using Y to block than holding the same button down. I also didn't like the flourish mechanic (It was fine as B!)

As for ranged weaponry, it was alright as Y, though I didn't like that you couldn't zoom in until you had progressed in "Skill". Otherwise it was fine. Except for the one fact that I despise about Fable 2 combat--It automatically aims for you. You don't even have the targeting option. It's NO FUN... It's button mashing.

But the biggest flaw in Fable 2/3 game mechanics is the magic! They were so much better as hotkeys! You didn't have to "equip a damn spell"! It was far better just to flip through spells with Y+RT and activate them with RT+A/X/B! Wtf is with equiping spells and casting them with the b button, having no strategic combinations, no anything! It's BS.

The sad thing is that you're probably right. They're gonna use the Fable 2/3 control setup. I'm just gonna have to hope they either don't, or at least do it some better. Because I may just keep playing the original over the improved edition like always. >...>

Sorry, a bit of a mini-rant there, wasn't originally supposed to be lol.

Oh yeah, this is definitely a good thing.

Q: Will the combat system be changed in any way?

A: Fans of the original Fable will be pleased to hear that no, the combat system will remain the same.

Yes. Ted Timmins revealed that the control scheme is unchanged from the original, but there will be an option to switch to the Fable 2 controls, if you wish.
