Blue Ray is dead

An interesting article could spell baaad news for sony and the PS3

Countdown to Christmas: Next-gen consoles, Zune - and the end of Blu-ray | TG Daily

This part of the article made me chuckle a bit. Only because I can't afford a PS3 :p

BetaMax, Mini-Disk, MemoryStick, and now Blu-ray. At least Sony is consistent. Also, if there is one company that is really looking forward to a better 2007 more than Sony I don't know of it. Boy, when you couple in root kits and battery/camera recalls, you are talking about a really nasty run of bad luck for Sony this year.

Re: Blue Ray is dead

Blu Ray was a big gamble for Sony i think in the long run it might be a good move because of the space on a Blu Ray disks is incredible so bigger and longer games are a real possibility. However in the battle for TV supremacy i think HD will win hands down as we know so much more about it.... more TV's are HD ready and its becoming very popular. Plus people are afraid of change and with HD being quite new here they arent going to want to jump to Blu Ray this soon afterwards.

Certainly seems that way to me.... but like i said Blu Ray was a huge gamble and they know it. I wouldnt say it is 'dead' by any means but I dont see it becoming a more popular format than HD.

True saying its dead is a bit premature but if HD-DVD really does outnumber Blueray ten to one by years end its headed to the graveyard. I think this could be what eventually sets :360: appart from the PS3. With the HD-DVD added to the xbox they're the same price.

who/what is "blue ray" o_O
Third Gen Optical Discs
CD 0.7 GB DVD 4.7 GB HD-DVD 15GB Blue-Ray 27GB
the main prob as I see it is backward compatibility you can make one disc that has standard dvd on one side and HD-DVD on the other. So you could buy a movie that could be played on you current DVD player now and on Your HD-DVD ( IN higher def) when you get one of those.

You can see why blue ray is hurting even though it can store more data
I have a feeling that there will be a large capacity HD-DVD in a few years
