[Poll]:: Pride and You

A recent thread at another forum interested me, and I was curious to see peoples' responses here as well. So, what are you proud about? About yourself, your sexuality, gender, perhaps even belief? So on and forth. Please do reply as to elaborate your choices. I'm curious.

Options:
  • Yourself
  • Country
  • Study
  • Heritage / Family
  • Sexuality
  • Gender
  • Clique
  • Culture
  • Religion
  • Friends
  • Ethnicity
  • Occupation
  • Successful Status
  • Website(s)
  • Humanity

My choices are: my study, family, sexuality, clique, friends, occupation, successful status and humanity. Why? Let me elaborate -- in no specific order

1.) Study
I've always highly endorsed study. Considered study as one of the most important subjects in my personal life and do take it extremely serious. Since I was a mere young child, I dreamt of having a job one time, one which I'd be very proud of. Without proper study, chances are that you won't even reach such a goal. Of course such is not guaranteed, but having a proper diploma does increase your chances. It some times disappoints me to see people not attending to college or whatsoever simply because they want to play a game, smoke weed, or whatsoever. But then again, that was a good 7-8 years ago.

2.) My family
Yes, I love my family altogether. And damned proud of 'em, too. Specifically my mother. She always supported me, both through hard and easy times, no matter what I did; not that I did something wrong. Thus far, my family never really received disappointing comments about behaviour, general performance of matter sor whatsoever. Only positive. Yes, all of them. But, you never know what the future might bring one another. Damn proud I tell ye.

3.) Sexuality
Very proud. In-case anybody wonders, I'm bisexual. I've had no problem coming out at the age of 15; neither to my family, nor friends or teachers at school back in the days. Nor do I have any problems telling anyone about it now. In-fact, I very much like it the way I am. Sexuality, whether it be homosexual, bisexual or heterosexual, is all fine in my eyes. I dislike those who discriminate, and especially based upon sexuality.

4.) Clique
Yes, clique indeed. I'm a proud metal head and will continue to be so forever. You call it, black-, goth-, doom-, thrash-, heavy-, folk-, death metal, I listen to it gladly. Though, the ones I'd prefer would be the first three along with folk- and death metal. I tend to hang out with people who have the same interests, obviously. The majority of my friends are metal heads. Not that I don't hang out with "non-metal heads", however. It's just a matter of preference. I also do listen to classical music, but that's an exception. I don't like other genres beside said two ones.

5.) Friends
Pretty much the same story as the clique one. My friends - those I hang out with - have always been supportive in my favour, and hopefully continue to do that. But, I always considered friends mere acquaintances more so than actual friends. Because in my book, "friends" don't exist. Why? Because no single human being, as far as I care, could call him- or herself an actual friend. If things get too heavy, they leave you to rot in a corner. Obviously there are a few exceptions, but they are to be found in rare occurrences.

6.) Occupation and Successful Status
While still being a student at the UoT (University of Technology, Netherlands), I do work as to earn some money of course. I work at a company, an ICT Solutions one and so far I'm doing a great job as application developer. Success thus far, and perhaps even further in the future, granted that I won't suffer bad luck and get fired due to the economical state (either now or the future).

7.) Humanity
Some initially thought I was a misanthropist, but no I am not. I very much like humanity as a whole. There's not much more to it than that.

So, what about you?

Re: [Poll]:: Pride and You

1.) myself. yeah, i like who i am. that's the first thing anybody should come to accept and eventually be proud of. it's just not healthy to think otherwise.

2.) study. i hate studying, and i hate putting forth effort into school. i do it because i want the lifestyle that a career will bring, but also because i'm a ****ing rock star (see "1.)").

3.) sexuality. i'm straight, and i wouldn't have it any other way.

4.) gender. i'd much prefer to constantly have sex on my mind than to have a "that time of the month". i'm ashamed to admit that a result of it is that while walking my usual thought process is "would ****" or "would not ****". as bad as it sounds, that's just how i'm wired. i'm not that shallow beyond seeing people in passing.

5.) clique. i never really followed cliques. i'm proud that i never did, i just associated with the people from various ones who i liked.

6.) friends. nothing i have ever done in my life could be as fun if i had done it with other people. and when we drink, **** gets rowdy.

Re: [Poll]:: Pride and You

You made me think! You bad person! :lol:

hmm...

1. Yourself
- I am who I am, and it is not what is asked of me so much as what I willingly give to be. It enriches the lives of those that matter, and that is enough.

2. Country
- Haha, I'm reminded of a bad but entertaining movie..."America, **** yea!" Hilarious song, but on many levels, despite the retarded bass-ackwards people (who are in every country, not just one), I'm proud of what has been accomplished and what lies in the future for the USA.

3. Study
- Knowledge is power, and learning more enhances every aspect of life, as far as I'm concerned. To let the mind stagnate and essentially rot robs us humans the one big biological strength we were allotted.

4/5. Sexuality/Gender
- I'm totally comfortable with my manhood and my lady, allowing me to act in ways not usually acceptable in more hard-nosed circles. Be derisive and, in my opinion jealous, all the immature one may want, but it's just water off the duck's back.

6/7. Clique/Religion
- For me, it's not so much that I belong or identify with any single one, but instead I enjoy the best of each. I move freely between different cliques and am welcomed in each. I do believe, but I will not chain myself to any one mass mollifier; after all, they are all the same in the end anyway...

8. Occupation
- I conduct research at a place called the Center for the Study of Family Violence and Sexual Assault. The aim is to learn the whys and strive for answers that could help make a change in the lives of the abusers and abused. I can't be more proud to help another person, as we all know someone who truly needs it.

9. Humanity
- This will be similar to the country; there are bad eggs in every bunch, and I wish we could just throw away those in humanity's container like we do the eggs. Alas we must live with them, but those that do shine in the darkness are truly examples of the best we have to offer, and that's just damn skippy.

Re: [Poll]:: Pride and You

I am not proud of myself, I am an underachiever, and though I live a happy lifestyle, I have a low stress tolerance and do things that would have me hanged in other countries.

I am not proud of my country, merely indifferent of it.

I am not proud of my study, merely interested in it. Philosophy, mythology, theology.

I am proud of my heritage, Irish, great drinkers, great lovers, good taters. Russian, Soviet, Vodka, primal. German, strong, technological.

I am proud of my Sexuality, but am closeted in real life, Bisexuality could ruin so many friendships.

Gender? Indifferent.

Clique? I have none.

I guess I am proud in my culture, America is a melting pot, we have some originality, and a lot of shared culture.

I am unclear on my religion.

Most of my friends are very smart, very funny and cool to hang out with, but I cannot say I am proud of them.

Ethnicity? Caucasians have done a lot in history, so have Negroids, Mongoloids and Hispanics.

No occupation, though I am searching, it is bittersweet.

As I said, neither do I have an occupation, nor am I an over-achiever.

I can not feel proud about a website.

Humanity? I despise people, but love a person.

Re: [Poll]:: Pride and You

My choices were:

1. Country - I love England, and while I spent a bit of my youth growing up in America, I personally prefer England to most other countries.

2. Study - I have forced study, never did well in school, college wasn't productive, but the stuff I did outside of institutionalised education was a great success.

3. Clique - This one's obvious, I love the stuff I'm interested in and although I wouldn't say I'm in a clique per se, all my friends have similar interests to me.

4. Friends - My friends as said above, share the same interests as me, and as such we're all quite close. I occasionally flit between friend groups as my mood takes me, but I have 4 or 5 core friends that I'm regularly hanging out with.

5. Occupation - I work at a pub. It's awesome, I get to drink, I knew the landlord previously and he's not a ****, and best of all, I get to bar people I don't like! Only downside is the awful hours I sometimes have to work :(

looking back now, I'm really not sure why I didn't pick sexuality lol.

K,

6. Sexuality - I'm straight and boring.

Re: [Poll]:: Pride and You

I'm honestly not proud of any of those things. :lol:

How could I be proud of my heritage? I've done nothing to contribute to it, it is mere luck that I'm German.

Why would I be proud of my country? Again, I was only born here, and I haven't contributed to any of it.

Wait, I am tempted to hit friends. I think I've finally sorted my friends out and wrote off users and assholes.

Actually, yeah, I'm proud of my friends.

I'm right there with you...in that, that's the only thing I can be proud of.

I actually find no pride in any of these things and I actually dislike the whole idea of "pride" itself. But for the sake of the poll and my boredom...I picked friends.

I actually don't like any of the choices here...meaning, I don't like myself, my country, my heritage, etc.

It's sad, really. :(

Re: [Poll]:: Pride and You

1:Country

Yes I'm English & I'm proud, I love My country's history & our culture. Though I also like America. As for other countries I've always wanted to learn German & Russian as languages (though I never got a real opportunity to do so.)

2: Clique

Yep I love the My hobbies & the social groups I am a part of. That is what ultimately defines Me as a person & makes Me who I am.

3: Gender/sexuality

Yes I'm a bloke & I love it, I think of sex a lot. I am in no way ashamed of this, there is no point in punishing Yourself for finding a girl stunningly attractive. It's like Cheez said: it's how We are wired. If feeling randy is wrong then I don't wanna be right, I'm perfectly comfortable with it.

4: Humanity

Meh, some people assholes, whilst others are absolutely BRILLIANT! Y'know the ones who really make Your life worth living: Friends, Inspirational heroes, Love interests etc.

5: Friends

I'm the sort of person who has a few close best friends, I'm not so much a people person. However, the friends that I do have are loyal, fun & are great to be around.

Proud of myself, even though I frequently **** **** up.

Proud of my country, even though it frequently ****s **** up.

Proud of my family, because... ****, they're my family.

Not proud of my study, because I hate English majoring and fail at math so can't do engineering.

Not proud of my job because I'm not a Coastie yet.

Proud of humanity, because, ****, look what we've accomplished. Seriously.

Firis. Negroids? Mongoloids? What are you, stupid? Do you know what "Mongoloid" means? Do you have any idea how racist "negroid" is today? Are you trying to be funny? And Hispanic isn't an ethnicity either. Or... well, kinda. And yeah, I know what the other meaning of "Mongoloid" is, and that one is both bull**** and offensive.

Frankly, I personally take offense at "Caucasian," too, but I can't be bothered to deal with it. And if you're going with defunct -oids, why didn't you said "Caucasoid?" And that'd include Hispanic, incidentally. Get your bull**** RIGHT at least, please?

Re: [Poll]:: Pride and You

You can be proud of yourself, because it's something you actually work towards. If you like who you are, then you can put that down to your own work.

You cannot be "proud" of your country. It is in no way a personal achievement to have been born in a specific place. You might enjoy the fact that you live in a country you like, but that =/= pride.

Same reason you cannot be proud of your sexuality. You can be proud of how you handle it (hehe...), but to be proud that you were born a certain way.... Silly.

And... well, same goes for most of those.

Re: [Poll]:: Pride and You

I totally forgot exactly what I voted but I'll just fill some in.

Heritage / Family - We of the Rochford Clan are a proud people and we have spread our seed across Ireland, England, France and the U.S. I'm very proud of our noble heritage.

Clique - I hang out in several groups but me and all my closest friends are social hybrids. We gamer musician athlete joker nerds. Mostly honors and AP classes, some of us play guitar, all of us but one play a sport, snarky remarks in class and all hardcore gamers. Plus we're like 2nd tier cool kids.

Culture - The closest thing to culture I have is a love for Vietnamese food. My favorite is Pho (Pronounced FUH). I kid you not when I say I get all my Pho from a restaurant called Pho King. Say the name out loud and pronounced correctly and you'll understand why it's funny.

Friends - Refer to Clique.

Ethnicity - Irish, German, Black and Vietnamese. Nuff said.

Re: [Poll]:: Pride and You

Country: America...I'm proud of some aspects of our country. Most of them though, I'm not proud of.

Study: Meh, I have about a B+ average in school and I plan to go to a four year college. Pretty ordinary, nothing too special.

Family: To be completely honest, I have a terrible relationships with my family. Just the family I live with though. All of my extended family lives far away. Although, I do love my dog.

Gender & Sexuality: I like my d*ck and I like boobies. I know, super boring, but whatevs. It's me. I support gays and bisexuals to the very end though.

Clique: Hmm...I don't think I really fit into a clique. Most people in my tight group of friends are different from one another. Plus, I fall under multiple different categories of social cliques. I'm kind of like man-bear-pig in a way. I'm half stoner, half athlete, and half video game nerd. They don't really fit together, do they? :lol:

Friends: You know, I never really thought about actually being proud of my close friends and who they are. They've just always been the guys that I have right there with me and the guys that I love to hang out with. I love 'em, but I don't think pride really plays into that.

Ethnicity: I'm white. Not super white though, I am of western European descent (more specifically, Portugal and Spain). It's cool, it allows me to pass off as a Mexican dude if I want to. :lol:

Now here are the two that I actually voted for, the ones I really am proud of.

Religious Affiliation: I am an antireligious Agnostic, and damn proud of it. I'm not going to go into why because it will most likely cause some kind of religious argument, and people 'round here don't typically want that to start. However, I hate organized religion, and I don't believe we can draw any conclusions at this point about whether or not there is some kind of higher power. Will we be able to draw any conclusions about that in the future? I don't know, and I don't think anybody right now can know. I also don't believe we can draw any conclusions about what this higher power might be if there is one. Will we be able to draw any conclusions about that in the future? Again, I don't know, and I don't think anybody right now can know. I do, however, believe that none of the world religions of the past or of today have gotten it right. Anyway, that's my basic belief system/religious affiliation, and I love every bit of it. It's contributed to who I am to some degree, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Yourself: There are so many things about myself that I love. One would be my aforementioned religious affiliation. It's a big part of who I am, what I believe (inside and outside of religion), and what I'm all about.

I also love how I don't belong to one social group. Like I mentioned in my comments about cliques, I'm a semi-stoner, an athlete, and a video game nerd. Tell me, out of all the people you know, how many of them would run a two-mile cross country race, go smoke some weed later that night, and then go home pretty late and nerd out on their Xbox? Not many I'd wager.

There are also certain attributes about myself that people would not normally view as positive, but I embrace these traits. I'm extremely stubborn and cynical. When I have my mind set on something, it won't budge. I'm a stubborn little sh*t, and I love it. Ah, and my cynicism. I love to hate things. Strangely enough, it brings me joy, and usually, I tend to gravitate toward hating, disliking, or at least not participating in popular things (examples would be American football, family guy, and halo).

I also hate ignorance, stupidity, and arrogance. Ignorance is a terrible plight on our world. Some say that ignorance is bliss. That may be true for an ignorant person, but their ignorance is anything but blissful to the rest of the world. People's lack of knowledge about certain things (mainly world issues) only ends up hurting those that shouldn't be hurt.

Stupidity isn't as big of a deal to the world in the long run, but it's ridiculous how stupid some people can be. And when I say stupidity, I'm not referring to a lack of book smarts or a lack of knowledge of the world, but only to a lack of common knowledge and common sense. As their names would imply, they should be common. But as it turns out, these seem to be misnomers because they really aren't very common after all. It seems like every day there are multiple things that happen to me or that I see people do or say that make me think to myself, "People are f*cking stupid."

And finally, arrogance. I hate when people walk around acting like they're the greatest thing that this world has ever produced. I realize this may sound contradictory because this whole time I've been spewing out what I'm all about and how much I love it, but I don't flaunt it to others and act like I'm so much better than them because of it. That's what I hate.

Oh, and one last thing before I leave this post. Something else I love about myself is how self aware I am. Quite simply, I just love knowing all of this about myself even if you're expected to be self aware like this. :lol:

Anyway, all of that is exactly who I am and exactly what I'm all about. And guess what. I love all of it. I hope someone cared enough to read all this. :lol:
