I heard they were maybe going to do it this weekend but didnt think they actually would go through with it but.... they did.

Although I have no real sympathy for the man, it would be naive to think that Hussein's death will bring about a quick end to the violence in Iraq. Not that anyone here is necessarily thinking that the war will soon come to an end...just saying, is all.

i wonder if there will be any reprocussions to his execution. Like riots and such I don't have cable so I have no idea what the news says.

Well, I read yesterday's paper today so I didn't even know they were going to kill him - that's how out of the loop I am. Some nutters may kick off but I don't think anything long term would occur. Now if Osama Bin Liner or whatever the hell that muppet's name is was going to get canned, then I think there could be quite a severe backlash...

There's been at least 68 people killed in Iraq since Saddam was executed, from what I've heard. At least 31 of those people were killed as a result of a minibus explosion.

Thats very true, some people will just go on riots now and might make iraq even worse for a while...

Some people are even saying he was a good leader after all because at least there was some kind of order even if it was down to fear. That whole area is in disarray because no one has really stepped up and sorted out how the place is gonna be run - the West can't hold it together forever - the country needs to be able to stand on its own and start all over and we need to back out. Take away the dictator and the country falls apart - but it doesn't last forever. Other countries have managed it but it won't be easy...

I feel once the US and the UK pull out Iraq will either be a shining model for democracy in the Middle East OR a complete Hell hole full of sectarian violence and civil war.
