Sounds like a nicer way of being rejected. I'd look up how common it is for people on the waitlist to get into the academy proper, and how far down the list you are.
It depends on the thing - my sister got waitlisted for Oxford last year, and ended up getting a place. I think they sometimes do that to review the people they have, but I'm not entirely sure.

It's not good or bad. It's good when you're accepted. It's bad if you're rejected. Neither of these things have yet happened and my understanding is that it's fairly common. Though, it's worth saying that of all the people who apply, maybe 15% go on to attend. If you have anything that can set you apart from the other people who apply, that'll improve your chances. If your SAT score is over 1250, that would be a good start.

Apparently the waitlist is unranked-- they told me to send in any updated transcripts and such. Considering that my grades last semester were A's in creative writing, intro to aerospace profession, and Army PT, B's in Spanish and English, a C in Physics, and a ****ing D in Calc 2, I doubt that'd really raise their opinion that much.

Depends on the people who were actually admitted. If enough of those people decide not to go to the Academy, they open it up to the waitlist.

Yeah, I know. My SAT score is way over 1250. I probably would have gotten in if I had done a bit better on the physical fitness exam and if my actual grades were better. I can kick a standardized test's ass, then get throughly mediocre grades.
But it is kinda bad. I won't know until May 1st, so I get to obsess until then. I had been busy reassuring myself that by April 15th I would know, one way or the other.
And yeah, it is a ***** to get in. Last time I checked they get something like 4,000 people who start applying every year for 400 or so slots.
EDIT: And yeah, Droded, it is better news than I expected.
And yes, the current max for the SAT is 2400. Pretty sure 1250 is actually pretty low now, not sure though.
ARROGANT LITTLE **** BRAGGING, DO NOT READ:
I really don't need to worry about the SAT. I got 2160 the second time I took it, and since the CGA considers the highest score on each part out of all the times you took it, I got 2210.
I'M GOING INSANE AND DOING MY LEVEL BEST TO DRIVE EVERYONE NEAR ME NUTS, TOO.
Seriously, my family's ready to kill me because I will not shut up about this ****.
I haven't heard anything new, but according a forum I discovered floating around, the Academy has sent out rejection letters to most of the waitlist, but roughly twenty people will be retained on a short waitlist.
And they'll be notified tomorrow. FUUUUCK I AM OBSESSING OVER THIS AND NOW I CAN'T SLEEP THINKING ABOUT HOW MUCH I WANT TO GET AN E-MAIL FROM THEM TOMORROW.
Yeah, I figured I was already making my family want to kill me, I might as well do the same to all of you.
