Microsoft asked the now-disbanded Runic Games to make another Fable title (and very nearly published Torchlight)

''We pitched Torchlight to Microsoft and had extensive meetings, a company vetting, and it all seemed to be going so well. To our shock, at the end of the arduous process, they decided they’d rather have us make a Fable game for them. We declined. Right before Torchlight shipped, a Microsoft rep came up to me at our first PAX and cried “Why didn’t you come to us to publish this?”

Bastards. They should've kept Lionhead alive instead of trying to hand over the I.P. to a studio that didn't even want it. Instead they killed a studio and its (practically) finished game, and just released a dumbass 1.5 console.

Sorry I'm just bitter. Sad about Runic Games - Torchlight is pretty cool.

Always sad to see any developer close and people lose their jobs & I don't think Microsoft really knew what direction they wanted Lionhead & Fable to go in & as every developer seemed to be pushing for more online/as a service games they followed suit. Only to realise too late that it was the single player RPG aspect that everyone fell in love with Fable for.

I'd say the Xbox One X (based on specs & benchmarks/reviews) was a little more than a 1.5 console. The PS4 pro was closer to a 1.5 console but both Xbox One & PS4 (as I said years ago) launched with specs that were too low as they both tried to beat the other out the door. I said they simply weren't powerful enough at launch and saw this coming unfortunately.

They should have released a little later and both launched with specs close to the One X & the Pro. Though 6 and a half times the power of the base model Xbox One would have been a high entry point a slightly lower spec One X that was more like the One S would have been better idea. Both consoles on release had some developers struggling to hit 60FPS and 1080p across their games so that should have been the priority. However you couldnt build a 4k PC for that price so they have done well in that regard. The most important thing I read in reviews was:

All Xbox One games will run better on One X, whether or not they’ve been specifically updated to do so. You’ll be able to play One X games at Full HD, too, with the choice as to whether you want to downscale from Ultra HD resolution for ultra-sharp graphics, or run games at 1080p for better performance.

Annoying for me as I have a base model PS4 & an Xbox One & an Xbox One S so now at some point im going to have to get a One X too so going to have to spend more cash for yet another console (plus a 4k TV).

I traded in my one for an S. The Xbox One s can play games at 4k I think it's 2166p or so. The X can stream in 4k.

Personally there is a hole left in my heart for what has happened to Bungie, Microsoft, and the closure of Lionhead. It's like the dream died. But on the other hand I was fed up with Lionhead and the direction they took with the series. I'm excited for a reboot, the new studio has plenty of inspiration to draw upon to make a convincing title Fable fans will love.

Thought most games for the One S only had HDR enabled and the One X had the main 4k option but I dont own a 4K TV anyway yet. It has an upscale option to 4K but doesnt offer true 4k from what I remember.

''While the Xbox One S doesn't offer true 4K gaming like the One X does, it still has a ton to offer for folks with Ultra-HD TVs. The One S plays 4K Blu-rays and supports 4K streaming for services such as Netflix and Amazon Video.

Microsoft's entry-level console offers HDR support for titles such as Gears of War 4 and Forza Horizon 3, meaning that folks with HDR TVs will still see a notable upgrade over the launch Xbox One.''
