I've read the Illiad. It didn't help. Sadly, right around the time I read the actual, full translation of the Illiad, I read a book called Pyramid Scheme by Dave Freer and... Eric Flint, I think. I kept thinking of Odysseus as Ody, and characterizing him as a dirty, unwashed brigand with a used-car-salesman smile and a tendency to exaggerate his own wisdom and prowess.
