This time one that isn't mine, oh joy! Its a netbook an "Acer AspireOne ZG5".

I kinda punched the screen and now its clearly damaged the lcd and its like looking at a rainbow of shame. So anyone savvy on replacing screens I'd appreciate the help, could I just go into a pc shop and get a replacement there and then? A few members will know that my laptop is broke from what I can guess is just a buggy hdd can't access the OS or the command prompt its more of a blue and pink menu that tries to fix the harddisk I dunno never seen it before, so while that laptop was broke I used my dads then he changed his password so I've been using my mum's netbook and now I've punched it and cracked the lcd and atm I'm using my old PC at my desk, ironic really this pc is working fine and I've been using other peoples computers LOL!

So yeah advice please, and once I fix this netbook maybe I could just go and never touch any computer ever again I swear technology hates me, everything always breaks or gets broken by me. :'(

Edit: also I don't really want people in currys or pc world checking my history as it is mostly 90% porn.

Apparently strong magnets can fix it - I tried it once on an old TV that's screen appeared to have melted and it kinda worked. Then it sort of fixed itself and then it happened again so I threw it out. So maybe try rubbing a magnet on it; drag it up the screen but be careful not to scratch it.

Obviously, it'd be more wise to just take it somewhere to be fixed. Just purge your history and put any "questionable" downloads on a USB stick or something.

Let's look at it step by step.

First go back to the "I kinda punched it" part. Noticed anything peculiar?

Yeah.

Don't punch stuff would probably be the best advice here...

Yes in FUTURE I will refrain from punching technological things, but right now I'd appreciate help on the aftermath of having punched said technology.

You punched your mum's netbook and lived to tell about it? Mm.

Well, one thing to do is to make sure that netbook is still under warranty. Assuming you like saving money.. Acer's warranty covers "accidental damage" cause trust me, they're not gonna help if they're under the knowledge it was on purpose. Backup those porn links to Wordpad, move it to a flash drive, and then clear your history (though I really doubt they'd check it anyway, nor care).

Or you can take it into a store, but it's not often a go in, swap screen, and leave scenario. Often they'll take it in for repair, you pay them, and then they'll call you when it's ready which can take up to a day or a week.

Agreed. If you physically broke the screen by punching it, I doubt there is something you can do to fix it yourself.

Thanks, I actually haven't mentioned it yet. Took it to pc world today they said they'd fix it but have to send it away for a week which would be problematic. I've read up on it and apprantly these models break quite frequently whether on purpose or not :p

I could try and replace just the screen though I'm useless at hardware, or just tell them I dropped it and it cracked that way. :steve: I can't delete or back up the porn either becauseI can't see a thing on screen its seriously just a mish mash of colours.

The forum is being quirky today; both double posts and double threads everywhere... Hmm..

Anyway; another good excuse would be having accidentally sat on the laptop. You'd be surprised how many screens gets borked that way.

Wait I totally just realised something... you've been watching porn on your mum's computer?

Surely her seeing the browsing history is more of a problem that some sweaty nerd at PC World admiring your selection of visual delights?

Or maybe that's not a problem for other people. For me, my mum coming into my room just as I switch tab for her to say, "What are doing, and why did you just switch tabs? Not looking at BigDongs.com are you?" was bad enough. And for the record it was LargeShlongs.com anyway.

Some hot mum-on-daughter action right there, folks. As for porn in general I don't really care. I don't exactly flaunt the fact that I watch it, but I thought it was mutually understood as a species that everyone looks at porn anyway?

Yeah but it's not something you want your mum to know about, or watch with you, or share links with.

It's the same reason why you feel awkward when a sex scene comes on in a movie you're watching with your folks. It's just... eh. Atleast for me anyway.

You can buy a screen off ebay easy enough - had a friend with a really badly cracked screen, he looked up his model number up and ordered it, then asked me to go help him, took apart the laptop (carefully....ish) then just replaced the screen ,bit of googling before hand but all was grand, could try this if you wanted

Of course everybody looks at porn, even grandma.

That or Tsuyu's excuse would work, or something fell on it.

If you really don't want to lose the porn, take out the hard drive and keep it. They don't need yours for the repair and they'll likely reformat the drive anyway (regardless if it has anything to do with the issue). Last time I had my laptop repaired by Acer, I was allowed to keep my HDD and they used one of their own there instead.

You can replace it yourself from a replacement off ebay since it's not that difficult (for example), but it voids the warranty (if they manage to find out you did it) and last thing you want is to somehow have another accident.

Or catch you in the act...

Regardless, I have no delusions of her not being aware of me looking at porn.

She's a clever old hag.

I have no doubt my mother's not nearly as naive as I'd like to believe she is.

I can see her rolling her eyes as I try to convince her I've gone all "Virgin-Mary" with my first kid.
