Can the Homestead save your family from Lucien?

Has anyone tried to save their family from being killed by Lucien at the end of the game by stashing them at the Homestead inside the Demon Door in Oakfield?

It doesn't work. I had Lady Grey and my son there, they still got killed.

^^^that would be very non-logical, it's a part of the game, your spouse getting killed...

On that note...

If you have more than one family, does Lucien kill them all? And can you wish them all back? I'm a shameless polygamist, although it's already cost me one wife...

...but hey, I've got two others...

...not to mention all the mistresses...

He wanted to make sure your heroic bloodline didn't continue so that there wouldn't be anyone who could stop him.

I believe the question was "when".

It happens near the end of the main quest.

The reason to have a family from the start, and not after the ending, is to have a child. If you get one at the start, it grows up afer you leave the spire. This is something that you would want, a child that grows up. ANy child afterwards wont grow up.

Yes they will. I got married and had a child even after killing Lucien, and she grew up.

AFAIK, babies born before the Spire quest won't grow up until after you come back, because that's part of the story (making you feel like you've been away for years). But kids born after that will grow up if you just leave home and do a quest or two. I had my second kid right after coming back from the Spire, went to Westcliff to cash in on my investment with Barnum, and came home to Oakfield to find her grown. I see no reason why kids born after Lucien's demise wouldn't work the same way.
