Finally State of Decay 2 was unveiled at E3 2016 and looks like they have scrapped the DayZ/H1Z1 etc MMO idea and decided to try and keep the story intact as well as choices having meaning as well as deaths and opted for 4 player co-op instead. I personally think this is a good idea as it will seperate itself away from the other zombie games coming out and not stray too far away from the originals concept (which I thought was great). Now with backing of Microsoft they have managed to overhaul the originals engine which was main factor that turned some off the first game.

State of Decay 2 will launch exclusively on Xbox One and Window 10. It's an Xbox Play Anywhere title so you'll be able to play across both with one purchase of the game. The new scheme means things like achievement and your progress will be synchronised across the two.

==============================================================================

In State of Decay 2 there is no single protagonist. Instead, you play as an entire community. The developer says that each survivor in the game is their own person with a mix of 'background traits, skills, and attitudes that determine what they can do, what they want, and what they are willing to do to get it'.

With this in mind, no two stories are alike in State of Decay 2 as the community and the collective choices will shape how the game plays. It's an open world game 'filled with dynamic zombie and human enemies, friendly survivors to recruit into your community, and valuable resources and gear necessary to keep your people alive'.

You can play State of Decay 2 solo but for the first time you can play four-play co-op multiplayer with your friends. You can invite them into your game or drop into theirs. Each player remains in charge of their own community of characters.

"Work together as you explore the deadly post-apocalyptic environment, watching each other’s backs and sharing the rewards of your accomplishments," says Undead Labs.

What's interesting is that it's not a server hosted MMO (massively multiplayer online) game, but it used to be. Undead Labs founder Jeff Strain told that it wanted to give fans "exactly what they want," which is co-op multiplayer.

"This is not a session-based experience. It's drop-in/drop-out. They key thing that I want everybody to know is, it doesn't require you to be online. We've designed it very much with the intention of it being the easiest, most convenient type of multiplayer you can imagine," said Strain.

Retaining the concept of the first game is a sensible idea. Drifting from the original formula that gave the first game its unique appeal (in favour of something that's already been done, better) might broaden the audience and attract sales, but it will only lead to disappointment. I wish Microsoft had understood this before they shut down Lionhead.

Looks like we will get the best of both worlds this time around, another good single player experience that can double as a drop in & out multiplayer experience too.

Been so long since I could post an update on this but happy to report we now have a release date and some more details FINALLY. I really enjoyed the original and although it was rough around the edges I thoroughly got my moneys worth with it and the DLC's.

The game will be released on May 22nd for PC and XB1 and will retail at $30, while the Ultimate Edition costs $50. Ultimate Edition comes with Xbox One copy of , as well as the forthcoming Independence and Daybreak DLC packs when they release and they get access on 18th May.

State of Decay 2 will be also added to the Xbox Game Pass service the same day it releases, meaning Game Pass subscribers will also be able to jump into the zombie survival game on May 22.

State of Decay 2 is part of ‘s coverage this month. The video released is a 25-minute walkthrough of the open world that features some exploration, and lots of action. The footage is captured from a PC at 4K and although it seems the IGN staff playing have no idea what they are doing its looking a decent leap from the first game.

“State of Decay 2 may be a steal at $30. And playing it reminded me that, annoyingly, there haven’t been any State of Decay copycats in the five years since the first game. Thankfully, the real thing returns soon enough.”

Nice to see the excellent features of the single player haven’t been compromised since adding 4 player co-op for the sequel. It seems they have actually enhanced loads of the old systems and overhauled every aspect even the engine.

Although the biggest change Undead Labs is bringing to State of Decay 2 is the addition of up to four-player cooperative play, they've also done some serious deepening of the game's impressive RPG mechanics. In the above video, State of Decay 2 design director Richard Foge walks us around a late-game base in the zombie-apocalypse sequel to show off all of the upgrades and base-building you can do.

Many fans were worried that with the lower price point of the game compared to other titles on Xbox One and PC that the additional revenue might be made up with microtransactions. However Jeff Strain, the studio head of Undead Labs, confirmed to IGN there won't in fact be any microtransactions in the upcoming zombie survival game.

State of Decay 2 will be released on May 22 for Xbox One and Windows PC as a Play Anywhere title. As is the case with every new title published by Microsoft Studios, the game will .

State of Decay 2 is shaping up to be a much deeper, more expansive version of the zombie-apocalypse simulator that's unlike anything else out there. Today we're looking at one of the core pillars of its blueprint, the survivors – the people – that make up your makeshift community.

Wondering what's new in State of Decay 2? The developers at Undead Labs show you the answer to that question in the video above, from cooperative multiplayer (including exactly how it works) to the terror of pitch-black nighttime and more!

Look for plenty of neat little things in the game footage shown here, too!

State of Decay 2 throws a lot of mayhem your way in the simulated zombie apocalypse. From general run-of-the-mill zombies, zombies in full body armor, zombies in clown attire (which adds a whole new level of creepy issues to work through), and the apex predators of the zombie horde – the Freaks.

Chief among those monstrosities are the Juggernauts, towering mountains of flesh and hunger that Undead Labs’ CEO Jeff Strain calls, “community enders.” To put that into context, in State of Decay 2, you don’t play a single character, but rather a collective of survivors. When one person dies, you can swap into another survivor and carry on. And that’s why a Juggernaut is so terrifying – it can kill everyone if you’re not careful.

A new trailer has come out of PAX East to whet your appetite for undead destruction. The trailer is brief, but it provides a nice overview of State of Decay 2, including a peek at parts of the game we haven’t seen much of yet, including homestead building, crafting, and team management. Of course, we also get plenty of zombie-slaying action, which actually looks surprisingly fluid and fun for a survival game.

A hefty patch was released for “State of Decay 2” on Friday that is meant to improve stability and other in-game issues.

The patch is sizable at 20GB — especially considering the game itself comes in at 20.31GB on the Xbox One. Despite the size, players can’t expect to see any new content in this patch, as it is mostly intended to fix game-breaking errors and add enhancements.

Just a few days after the patch’s release, publisher Microsoft Studios announced on Friday that “State of Decay 2” has now reached a new . “State of Decay 2” is available on Xbox One and PC.
