Yeah while your on the earth ( feet touching the ground ) you are going the same speed or momentum so if you jump you are still insycn with the momentum but if you are hovering eventually you will unsync because you are not on the ground. So the question still remains

If you could hover at a exact point would you end up at the other side of the earth in 12 hours ? Lets say some point on the equator to the other or Like New york to maybe china, and if so why dont air planes fly opisite direction of earth spin to reach a destination faster by letting the earth...
