The question being, does football refer to Aussie football all the time? Specifically, this came up because I was listening to a Sabriel (Garth Nix=Aussie) audiobook read by a British man and I heard something described as "About the size of a football field."

Which is mutually intelligible no matter which KIND of football field, since they're all roughly the same size (give or take seventy yards), but I kinda wondered which he might've meant.
