Just over a grand a year for me to study Jazz.

But by sheer chance, I'm also getting a diploma of education at the end of next year, so it's not just learning for the sake of learning.

Geeze. Can I move to Australia? Even our community colleges cost 2-3 thousand. True, the Aussie dollar is worth a little more, but not THAT much more.

Is that a per-class payment or just a flat full-time one?

Of course, you don't really NEED an education degree if you're teaching high schoolers English or whathaveyou, just get certified, but still. It's the thought that counts.

It depends on the course. I chose this course because it was Commonwealth Supported, which means that the government pays something like 70% of the fee.

Howdoyoumean "Course?" You mean it as in "course of study?" The government pays for your entire music major education?

Also, I believe I may have asked this before, but do you get a shiny scrap of paper with a degree on it out of this? And what type if you do? No idea what degrees Aussie-land has, of course.

By "course" I mean, the education I'm doing in order to get the qualification. Two years of classroom style learning, and I get an Advanced Diploma in Music out of it.

Also, a dip ed.

So... an associate's degreee, I guess. Roughly.

Diploma of education, also two years? Don't know if we have one of those. Does that get you teacher certification or what?

I mean, after you get the degree, can you go get a job teaching kindergarten, or what?

Yeah, round about.

Well, basically my school and a nearby university decided they each had something the other wanted. Deakin (the university) wanted my TAFE to teach their guys how to play piano a little, and in return they offered people who complete our class a 10 week crash course to get a dip ed.

When it's done, because I'm doing a music course, I'll be qualified to teach music in primary and secondary schools.

So you can teach anywhere from about five-year-olds to 17-year-olds? Fun.

Out of curiosity, do you NEED the teacher training for that? In the US, it varies from state to state, but to teach high school (13 or 14 on up to 17-year-olds) all you need is a degree in whatever subject you want to teach and then a state certification. They might require coursework, or they might not.
