You got the rings of death:O That sucks! I try not to play mine when it's too hot. (that pretty much excludes summer, living in Australia:getlost:)

Re: 3 or 4 red ring of death

There can be only one! I'm going to get your 360

Re: 3 or 4 red ring of death

From what people have told me and the timescale Steve recently spoke about it takes about 2-3 weeks to send it to them and get them to return it.

Re: 3 or 4 red ring of death

I hear that the process is a whole lot faster in the states, like Kave said, but over here, in the UK, you're looking at around 2-3 weeks. Then again there's people on the official Xbox 360 Forums moaning about having to have to wait 5-6 weeks for a refurbished unit to be returned.

If you've got the 3 red ring of death then you should be covered by the additional 3 year warranty. Give Xbox 360 tech support a call (the phone number is here: Xbox.com | Support) and they'll ask you to box up your 360 and wait for a guy from UPS to come and pick it up and ship it off to Microsoft. They collected mine about a week ago and, to be honest, I've heard so many horror stories of people receiving broken refurbished Xbox 360s -- after almost two months of waiting -- and having to send them off again that I'm tempted to just buy an Xbox 360 Elite.

Good luck either way, though. Let me know how you get on and hopefully it won't take all that long for you to get yours repaired.

If mine ever died on me (hope it doesnt) i would go for an Elite. If covered by the warranty id send it off to be repaired but buy an Elite anyway. Then id use 2nd 360 for Link up play and get another Xbox Live Gold account and wireless internet for it so i could play online with sisters and friends at my house.

Re: 3 or 4 red ring of death

Just got off the phone with Xbox 360 customer support and this tech support lady said that my Xbox 360 had been repaired last Friday and should arrive either tomorrow or the day after! Hurrah! Glad I phoned! Nagging really helps speed things up. I've also requested an additional month of Xbox Live Gold to be added to my account, too.

My advice: Just nag. But in a nice way. Just ring, like, every day and that really seems to speed things up. It's a free phone number, too.

That's pretty much the same thing me and Sharon were thinking. Sharon would have had my old premium Xbox 360 and we'd set it up in the spare bedroom with my old TV and either play over a LAN or I'd purchase an extra Xbox Live gold subscription. Sharon enjoys playing Mass Effect and Oblivion more than anything, though, so so an extra XBL Gold subscription wasn't something we'd set our minds to. Plus having to have to buy two of the same game would have set us back a whole lot, too.

But blue crow: Just hang in there, be patient but be sure to do some nagging for good measure. If the tech support lady was telling me the truth (and I'm guessing she was cause she gave me the UPS tracking number as well) then it didn't even take a week for mine to be repaired. The thing that took the longest was getting my account details updated. I had to find my old Amazon receipt which had proof of when I purchase my 360.

Good luck!

Edit: Bingo! The UPS tracking number confirms that my Xbox 360 has been shipped back to me today and should - hopefully - get back to me within the next days. I'm gonna put the £300 it would have cost me for the new Xbox 360 Elite towards a ton of 360 games and accessories instead.

Yeah that always annoyed me, having to have 2 of the same game to play LAN games. I always ended up buying second copies off friends for cheaper.

My reciept has stayed in my wallet since i purchased my 360 just incase it ever died and i needed it. It would be just my luck to get drunk and lose it and then have 360 die on me.

It would be nice if the 360 was like the DS in some respects, with a DS you can have 4 player games with 4 different units via Wi-Fi and only use one game cartridge. Shame that the Xbox 360 doesn't have that kind of ability.

I almost crapped myself when I realised that - no more than like, five weeks ago - I threw out my old Xbox 360 box along with all the necessary info because it was taking up a ton of space in my wardrobe. I was like... Oh, crap. Fortunatley, because I order my 360 through Amazon, I still had the online receipt stored in my GMail inbox and that was enough to prove that my 360 was still within its warranty period. Took forever to get it validated, though. That's the only complaint with Xbox 360 tech support that I have.

Well thats good, now just have to hurry your *** up and get COD 4. :P
I'm gonna order it from eBay right now. :D

By the way, blue crow: One last tip: Never ever ask to be put through to a supervisor, the tech support guys seem to get totally offended by this - as if you just talked **** about their mothers or something. If you can keep 'em on the phone long enough then they patch you through to the supervisor anyway.

The supervisor I spoke to seemed quite rude for the first 10 minutes, as if I was doing her a great injustice by trying to get my faulty Xbox 360 repaired. After 10 minutes she lightened up, though, and I even managed to have a laugh with her about the evil red ring of death. Tried to get the inside scoop on the new "Falcon" chipset, too, but she had no idea what I was on about.

Re: 3 or 4 red ring of death

First gen? Do you mean Xbox/Ps2/GC or N64/PS1 or SNES/Atari?

Mines exactly the same, if i take a disc out of the tray it wont open unless i tilt it up. So long as theres always a disc in there i have no trouble though.

Yeah they are just telephone operatives and wont have to many details about the production parts.

Think he means the first batch and not the newer models that were brought out etc. Before the introduction of the ones with newer chips and the Elites and such.

No I mean there at least two generations of 360. The early ones that seem to go out more often. Just like with the old xbox there was at least 4. Different dvd drives and the early ones were easier to hack
