A Word to the World, From the UK

I've heard that Coldplay has become on of the worlds biggest bands. Please don't think that's what all our music sounds like, thank you. (:

:D

Urm.. Maybe discuss what music you like the best or if you think Coldplay suck or not?

Hey there is nothing wrong with Coldplay. Viva La Vida is great... well, the song anyhow. The video is ridiculously retarded.

Viva La Vida and Technicolor II (That's how famous Coldplay are, English and spell colour like color) are there best songs but apart from that.. Honestly.

Re: A Word to the World, From the UK

Viva La Vida is the only song of theirs that Iv ever heard and I think its not bad.

Re: A Word to the World, From the UK

I actually really like Coldplay for the most part - the Scientist being my all time favourite track - but I have to be in the right frame of mind to listen to them. What I don't like is their somewhat pretentious attitude when being interviewed in a light-hearted manner. They take themselves waaaay too seriously.

Re: A Word to the World, From the UK

Great band. If they lay off the ballads and go for a more Viva La Vida feel with the next album(s) they can't go wrong.

Interesting Fact: Viva La Vida contains no backbeat, which is almost a requirement in any pop song.

Coldplay doesn't threaten England's music credentials... we spawned Cradle Of Filth, it would take a lot to negate that :P

Re: A Word to the World, From the UK

I don`t like Coldplay.

Re: A Word to the World, From the UK

I don't think I have ever heard Cold Play.

Not to mention The Beatles. And the Rolling Stones. And Sex Pistols. And Black Sabbath and...

Heck, most of the great bands originated from the UK.

The thing is, loads of people say "most of the biggest music acts coem from america"
But america is teh huge. It doesn't mean they're more talented. The population percentage of musical talent is probably less than ours.

Am I the only person on the planet who doesn't think the Beatles were epic? Freddie Mercury - he was epic. John, Paul, George and Ringo? Not so much...

To be honest - personal taste/feelings aside - the epicness of The Beatles is pretty much a fact.

They were just.... huge.

I very much prefer Queen over The Beatles - but at the same time I just can't deny how big The Beatles were.

It's not so much the music they wrote, which was great in itself, the amount of hits they had, but the impression they left on the music world. Even forty (nearly fifty) years later they are still influencing music.

And yeah, musically, Queen > The Beatles, but no one has left a bigger influence on music than them. Except maybe like Robert Johnson or something, but not many know who he is.

I've heard that song soooo many times its just annoying.

But I like Coldplays OLD Stuff.

And I don't Judge Anything By one Singular thing.. :)

Or.. Do I? DUN DUN DUNNNN

Nah I do it for fun.

Re: A Word to the World, From the UK

The best music from the 60's 70's and 80's has come from the UK. I know most people have mentioned them already, but i'm gonna do it again anyway. the beatles, the rolling stones, deep purple, led zepplin, queen, iron maiden, pink floyd, the sex pistols, the clash, the who, creamyes, jethro tull, the animals, motorhead, judas priest, def leppard the police and the cure, depeche mode, dire straits, just to mention a few.

There definitely been alot of good stuff come out recently too. dragonforce (I know, not the best example, but i like 'em) bush, muse, gomez, oasis, blur, radiohead, kaiser chiefs, lostprophets(welsh), the prodigy..., hmmm, thats about all i got wivvout goin inta brit pop, innit, ja know wha' imean?

Anyway, Viva la Vidas is very overplayed here in Oz, and is currently the subject of a lawsuit for plageurism, filed by Joe Satriani. The melody in the chorus is exactly the same and 2 sections of Joe's song, 'If I Could Fly'. I encourage all of you to listen to it. I personally am on Joe's side in this. I liked Coldplay's 1st 2 albums, but after X&Y, it's turned to over hyped, overplayed pop crap.

Re: A Word to the World, From the UK

Coldplay isn't bad, but they just sound too much like U2 wannabes... best bands out of England: Black Sabbath, The beatles. Best bands out of America: Metallica, Korn.
That just my opinion.

Re: A Word to the World, From the UK

Jimi Hendrix was first famous in the UK where he lived at the time. I don't know if that counts though because he was born and raised in America.

Also: Are U2 from the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland?
