That's really what he looks like.
Yep, the iconic purple dragon from the 90s has been reborn, but it is unfortunately not by Insomniac (the devs responsible for the little guy's memorable adventures on the PS1), but instead by Activision. Activision, the same publishing company who --if you've been living under a rock-- has recently milked, raped, and piledriven to death the Guitar Hero franchise, DJ Hero franchise, and has issued the cancellation of the latest True Crime game, along with the termination of hundreds of employees who are now jobless.
So now with the termination of 2 popular franchises and a possible 3rd, what's next on Activision's agenda? Why, to revive a 90s icon and brutally bludgeon him to death of course. Spyro the Dragon will be making his return to PC, handhelds, and consoles, but not without some new (and gimmicky) gameplay mechanics. In the newly titled game "Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure", players will be given the ability to collect real-life action figures (yes, in real-life) and place them into the game via the new Portal of Power mat. Each collectible toy will contain unlockable achievements and/or leveled up abilities for you to unlock and use in-game.
Each character will have their own elemental abilities that will unlock unique experiences in-game, and players will be able to use their collected toys to play cooperatively and competitively. It should be naturally expected that the collectible action figures will run for an extra fee.
