As the thread title said, I've become hopelessly addicted. I think Ty made a thread about this a while back. I refrained from getting Minecraft because I knew I would love it and, for some reason, I decided to get it anyway a few days ago... I was right to delay it, because it's just as much like crack cocaine as I thought it would be. I've only had it for a few days and I already understand what Yahtzee said about how you're bound to end up hungry to get some appreciation for that thing you built.
Does anyone who has played have some tips?
Fun things to try doing/building? Fun glitches recreate?
I am holding off on modded maps. I want to enjoy the game world where I'm struggling to survive before I start seeing modded maps so awesome that my regular single player will always be boring in comparison.
So far I've already found diamond and forged some stuff with that, but it's so rare that I can't consistently make gear from it. Is there some trick to finding it (besides dig deeper)?
Also, I've mined the living hell out of the area my spawn is at... I can't dig down anymore at all without either hitting bottom with no ore or caverns to speak of or one that has already been riddled with torches. Is there a way to change my spawn point or to fast travel a great distance accurately? I read you can do it by going through the Nether (building a portal to hell) but that doesn't seem very economical since that obsidian stuff is a royal pain to mine (though I think I have enough).
