Albion has 50 Regions or so not 12

Gradius1 a level designer from Lionhead had this to say about the number of regions in Albion

Gradius1 said:
There are not 12 regions. There are around 50 or so.
There are 12 'main' overworld regions...and don't forget some of these have variations per chapter or internal changes that essentially make them into new regions.
It's a big old world

Is this a good thing or a bad thing do you think?

Re: Albion has 50 Regions or so not 12

Can't be too bad, bigger is usually better.

Re: Albion has 50 Regions or so not 12

Defiantly better.

There is probably more towns & City's this way =]

Re: Albion has 50 Regions or so not 12

I was thinking that the more regions the more you have to load

Re: Albion has 50 Regions or so not 12

I doubt there will be many loading screen. And even if there is I'm thinking 2-5 second ones.

Re: Albion has 50 Regions or so not 12

Better!The bigger the better!
Loading time can't be that long.Bowerstone looks huge on the vid!

Re: Albion has 50 Regions or so not 12

Loading aside, I just hope that with the number of regions, they have spent time making them different enough so that you don't travel through one area and think "haven't I just been here?"

That's one fatal flaw in my eyes when people attempt something ambitious like this and seem to think it's enough just to make lots of places to visit. If you're going to go that far, go one step more and make each one as varied as is possible - or at least enough variety so that any repetition is not as noticeable.

Re: Albion has 50 Regions or so not 12

He did mention that there is Allot of different scenery in each area. And I don't think the game is so Vast that we are going to be saying "haven't I just been here?".

Re: Albion has 50 Regions or so not 12

50 regions? Wow, this game is going to be very vast and explorable.

Re: Albion has 50 Regions or so not 12

Yeah I read that as well. I think it's exciting, that we have so many places to go. :) It may take more space though like you said, I wonder how much this game will need?

I'm pretty sure their is, I remember on demos, seeing loading screens inbetween regions

Re: Albion has 50 Regions or so not 12

How do y'all think this game will compare to the size of "Oblivion"? Or "Fallout 3"?
50 regions sounds big, but I'd have to say that it only sounds about 1/4 the size of "Oblivion", if that. Not that it's a bad thing. "Oblivion" was the first big RPG for the 360 both in size and the actual gameplay. I feel that "Fable 2" will surpass it. And even though "Fallout 3" will be good competition for it, I feel that even "Fallout" will not be enough to take down "Fable".

I don't know about that, bro. I mean, sure Fable 2 is big, but I hear much more talk about Fallout 3 and Gears of War 2 than Fable 2 (sadly). If the geography of Fable was like that of Oblivion, though, the guild seal teleportation would be so kick ass!

"Gears" will be big, but if you wanna know something funny. I hadn't heard barely anything about "Fallout 3" until 4 days ago. Hell, I thought it was only coming out for the PS3 to tell you the truth. So it's not as popular as you might think. Though "Gears of War 2" will be tough competition and "Call of Duty: World at War" could end up being good, too. I guess all we can do is wait and see. I still have high hopes for "Fable 2" though. =)

Re: Albion has 50 Regions or so not 12

I'm A little confused, 50 regions, and the game will be free roaming? does that mean there are going to be random loading areas that bridge regions or is it going to those little archways and walls that were in Fable 1?

Will region be like those in Oblivion? With the loading areas?

Re: Albion has 50 Regions or so not 12

If I remember correctly, in Oblivion it didn't load too often. And what little it did load after you exited a city, would only take a short amount of time. I'm guessing that since it's smaller, it won't take long to load at all. They could also implement caching. This would make load times approximately 30% faster. At that rate, a load would be so quick, you'd barely realize it even happened. This is all just speculation though.

Re: Albion has 50 Regions or so not 12

If people have to suffer through a small fraction of load time to experience the content of Fable 2, then it'll be worth it. As PM has said, even if someone speed runs through the game and missing the point of it while doing so, it will still take them 7-10 hours to do so.

The beauty of F2 isn't just about the expanded regions and roaming abilities, which is fantastic. LH developers have been put on record as saying how amazed they are with the amount of content and complexity of choice that's involved within the game. I'm very confident that they've balanced the size and scope of Albion with the quality of content that we'll find within it.

As far as other games (Oblivion IV et al), bigger wasn't always better in those cases. Oblivion had a noted problem with freezing between loadable regions, other noted titles had extremely long loading times between sections. Gears of War... irrefutably the Killer App for the 360 platform... great game they have their own style of loading between cut scenes where it was a hybrid between loading and limited movement and action. This isn't necessarily to do with load time between regions but fable is taking this idea to the next level and will not have cut scenes in the mainstream sense.

In total I'm glad the regions are larger and that is a plus. But it isn't everything either. I'll be spending many a hour in every region I'm sure looking for all the nifty things the team has spent years toiling over and perfecting.

Can't wait...

Oblivion was Seriously Vast. But in a way that you wouldn't want fable to be like it. Imagine if you cut all the useless places from Oblivion. It would be like cutting it in half.

Fable 2 deliberately has a bit of comical environment and characters, unlike oblivion or COD 4, i wasn't expecting realistic graphics (you know oblivion, will make sure the kid is the most accurate size.) It's just how Fable 2 and Fable's style
