According to reports Sony have been hinting that all future first party games will make use of the PSN Pass for the online aspect. Meaning anyone who purchases a game second hand would need to purchase an online pass for it if they were to want to play it online and access all the features. Sony have already revealed that Uncharted 3 will follow Resistance in using the system but also said 'Online Pass will be incorporated into Uncharted 3 and future Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS) games with online functionality. We will provide further information in the future.'

EA, THQ and Ubisoft are other companies that use the online pass system currently...

It is a very effective douchebaggy way to kill off second hand consumers.

I can see why they do it but its also a way for us who sell our games to make more money too in a weird turn of events. As if i put games on Ebay but dont play online on them (normally sports titles) such as Fight Night with online codes they are worth more to sell on Ebay with the code.

But your average gamer will be screwed when he tries to sell his games. You'd have to lower your price because the copy is worthless unless the buyer also forks over cash to the publisher.

Yeah its a pain when you try and sell your games when you have used the online codes. The consumer has to fork out an extra charge to play the game they have purchased off you online but i suppose it can still work out cheaper than paying for the game from a shop straight away so i dont know how much effect it will have on the 2nd hand market. It might even drive down the numbers of people playing online on consoles, especially those that pay for Xbox Live then purchase 2nd hand games and have to purchase a pass too. However apparently Sony are moving towards a paid method of online too so it might severely effect consoles online service numbers.
