Another one of my stupid threads.

Okay, three random questions.

One
How do you make a torch? I need to make a torch out of a piece of wood.

What material should I use?
What should I use as lighter fluid?

I basically need to make a wooden torch that can last for at least 10 minutes and can be held sideways. I am designing an album cover for a local band. The cover consists of a guy holding a wooden torch.


Two
What are physically objects that represent freedom? Not freedom as in "freedom of speech". More like freedom from a type of bondage.
A broken pair of handcuffs would be an example. Any other objects that could be held that means freedom form bondage?


Three
Does anyone else watch The IT Crowd? I started watching that recently and I absolutely love it! If you haven’t seen it and are in to comical TV shows, watch it. ^_^

you want to wrap some kind of thick cloth around the end of it. how much cloth you use determines how long the torch will burn. coat the outside with lighter fluid or gasoline (don't dunk it, you want this flame to last). see how long it goes for, and add more cloth/less fluid for more time.

that's how i'd do it anyway.

EDIT: you could also buy a tiki torch at most places that sell lawn furniture. those things are built to burn for far longer than 10 minutes, and i don't think they're very expensive.

I couldn't thing of a better word for "a fluid or plasma that is flammable" other than lighter fluid. Tar you say? That seems like something that would work. I might have to research how much to use though.

EDIT:
@ CheezMcNASTY- I am trying to make a torch that looks rugged and made to look oldish. The way a tiki torch is just wont fit the picture i'm making. I already considered it. :)

It's it traditionally pitch? Not that I know what that is, but I read a lot of fantasy books.

I like the broken handcuffs idea. A better symbol I cannot think of.

I watch the IT Crowd. I thought the first series was pretty weak but it definitely picked up from series 2 onwards. I've been meaning to purchase the triple series boxset actually. Thank you for reminding me!

What do you mean the first series was weak? Denym was such a great boss. Too bad about the pension accounts.

Maybe for a symbol of freedom you could put the statue of liberty.

...or a blown up jail cell...
