Being a mommy, well not exactly...

Yesterday on the walk over to my humble abode, my friend heard a strange sound coming from under some leaves and decided to investigate it. Lo and behold, she uncovered a nest of five abandoned kittens. They're so tiny, they're only about 2-3 weeks old.
This was yesterday afternoon and they were on the verge of death, they were soaked to the bone and freezing, but we managed to get them warm and feed them formula from an eye dropper.
But now, Amanda (the kittens' savior) is gone back to her house and I'm here with all five kittens sleeping in a box with a heating pad and blankets, just waiting for them to wake up so I can feed them and whatnot. Seriously, this is difficult. It's like taking care of an infant. There is little to no sleep, I got about three hours last night (which may not seem like a big deal to people used to pulling all-nighters, but I'm an 8-10 hours of beauty sleep kind of lass).
I'm exhausted and no one is willing to help me out. My lazy sisters would rather just go to sleep or laze around on the computer all day than help me fill up a bottle or clean up the kittens. Ugh, I suppose I should be used to being abandoned by my family. >< Even Amanda can't take in a few of the kittens because her mom doesn't like cats or something. Bull ****. She's the one who found them in the first place!
I suppose I can go a month without sleeping properly until I can find them proper homes. This is just such a weird situation, and such a bad time too what with the end of the semester drawing near as well as the hours at my job increasing. Oh joy, one of them is crying...I suppose I'll end this rant now then. Thanks for reading and commenting and all.

kittens cry? O.o

well, I think what your doing is awesome. who the hell would do that to poor little kittens? there are places that will take them in damnit! well, from what I know of cats (not much) they grow up fast so they shouldnt be so helplessly needy for long. but then they get into all sorts of mischief. well anyway, your awesome for helping the kitties, I wish I could help you out.

Re: Being a mommy, well not exactly...

we had a Female cat who lived outside and wasn't spade she got pregnant and had her babies in our kitchen there were 5 of them they were...a handful you could say we waited til they were a couple of months old and then took four of them and they're mom to the Animal shelter and we kept one. the lady at the shelter told us that all of them should be adopted quickly

Aw, I appreciate the thought.
It's stressful but I know I'm doing the right thing. Makes me feel all warm and tingly inside to know I'm helping the little darlings out.
Here's a picture of me and little Leper Messiah. <3

Yes, we named the kittens after Metallica songs. We're just that awesome. ;D

Re: Being a mommy, well not exactly...

i think you should leave one and try to give the others to a animal care company/organization so when they are older and properly taken care of they give them to families to keep. But watch out kittens who leave their mother at early age are the most stubborn and worst kind of cats. Just keep one, it's not to much work, i would advise a girl one.

Re: Being a mommy, well not exactly...

We took them to a shelter yesterday and they said they didn't have an adequate round the clock staff for them, so it's up to me to bottle feed them for a few weeks. We're not keeping any of them once they're big enough for adoption, though. I already have one friend who'll take one, and I'm looking for more.
@Archon - They're too little to even tell who's a boy and who's a girl. That can't be determined until the boy's hit puberty and their balls drop. For now, they're all the same.

Re: Being a mommy, well not exactly...

Should get some family members in the room when you are feeding them. Usually people cant help but start to care for them even if they try not to. If they see them doing any 'cute' things im sure they will start to care for their well-being too. Kind of emotional blackmail but you wont actually be doing anything.

Yep - this will be my life in about 5 months' time only with a human being. Sucks, doesn't it?

On the plus side, at least you've taken them in and perhaps getting in touch with an animal shelter of some sort could help? You don't have any medical history of these animals or their mother so to sell them privately may not be such a good idea. Same with giving them away - you want to be sure they are going to a decent home and not to Cruella De Ville or someone similar.

As for people helping out, emotional blackmail is awesome stuff - do what Drakan said or appeal to the maternal instincts of the females in your house. But get a vet or whoever to check them out if possible coz then you'll know that their health is ok and that you're doing everything they need to stay healthy :)

Re: Being a mommy, well not exactly...

Thanks guys. I'm asking friends and friends of friends if they'd like to take them so I'm sure I won't be giving them to any psychos.
Their names are: Master of Puppets, Leper Messiah, Loverman, St. Anger, and Sparrow
They really all do look almost exactly alike. Master of Puppets is the biggest and Leper Messiah is tiny, the rest are in between. And I know that Sparrow ruins the Metallica trend but my sister wanted to name one. Oh well, he's quite adorable so it's alright.
They almost slept through the entire night last night so I'm a little less insane today and my headache finally went away. My mom took care of them today, so hopefully that trend will continue. I'll keep this updated and I'll try to get more pictures up after work. ^^
