Benevolent or Evil. What did you choose? SPOILER!!!!

I just finished the, I guess it would be called the main missions. I was a benevolent ruler, at least for the most part. I did turn an orphanage into a brothel, and drain the lake for a quarry, but otherwise nice.
Being so nice, most of my peeps died when the great darkness came. I fought and won.

But I am curious, did anyone be a dictator, hated by all throughout? And if so, how did the big battle differ, if at all? Did you have more troops and such? Did my going into debt change anything?

I managed to do every promise, bought loads of property and left my Xbox on until I had amassed enough money.

Saved everyone but there were people dying in the buildings I ran past? :S

Now my save is corrupt, so I might start over evil.
