best laptop?

hey im looking for a new laptop for school, and i thought you guys could help, my top three things are memory, customizability, and reliability, so any suggestions?

Compaqs suck they just do they have terrible specs and Dell is getting better computers made.

Well, what exactly will you be using it for? Whilst your mum is willing to spoil you (how I wish I had your parents!) there's not much sense is paying for a massively powerful model when all you need is perhaps something mid-range?

Oh and pretty - it has to look pretty...:lol:

Yeah, Compaqs do suck. Apple computers are really good for reliability. I know someone who has an iBook that has never frozen on him or had to reboot in the 3 years he has had it. If I had a choice of any laptop to get, I'd definitely get a MacBook. Here's the specifications:

Personally last time I tested specs vs. price HP(Compaq is HP) were ahead of Dell's Inspiron series. This was with uprades, all HP uprades were over 50% cheaper than Dell making for a few hundred dollar difference.

As far as reliability I'd give it to Dell. I've seen far more HP's that needed fixed. I would only say go with Intel Core 2 Duo.

I know only 2, I don't really consider any other manufacturer :D

Having sold laptops for a number of years this is the best advice. If you want to play games on it you'll want to make sure that it has a good video card with lots of RAM. Do NOT get Vista Home Basic if you can help it unless all your going to use it for is school work :lol: The best notebook is the one that does works for you.

Home premium should work for everyones needs until you come to your fav programs being non supported but most of them will soon be upgraded to supported so I would go with it and if you still have errors that will not be resolved have your mom get Xp pro and install it on another Hdd on the lappy.

sweet guys, i was leaning towards the 1520 myself, if not that new dell XPS, (keep dreaming) but yea thanks now all i need to do is talk to mum, hope she listens, today is my first day of highschool lol

Make sure it still works by the time you get into college, you'll need it. :P

Now why the hell weren't my parents like this? All I got for school was a pad of paper and a pencil case...:(
