Bethesda Gives Non-Live Subscribers Hope!

As the Shivering Isle expansion was ONLY originally planned to be an Xbox Live download for the Xbox 360 it left many fans without Xbox Live wondering exactley how they were going to get their 'hands' on it. Well Bethesda have now offered them hope and said Shivering Isles could very well have a retail boxed copy coming out to. They have said they dont have a lot of control over that area but would love to release it as a retail game. Here is quote from senior game designer Bruce Nesmith...

Bruce Nesmith said:
Eventually we will publish a complete version, a Game of the Year or Special Edition - I don't know what they'll actually decide to call it - of the game that will include a compilation of everything. And at that point you could have one DVD that has everything on it. Of course, it would mean "re-buying a game that you already bought", which is "not really an ideal situation", but it would be a way for non-Live Xbox 360 owners to obtain Shivering Isles. We would "love nothing more" than be able to release just the expansion for Xbox 360 in stores, but it's not something we really have a lot of control over.

Microsoft does not have a method for delivering expansion packs in stores for the Xbox. When you put that extra CD or DVD into the Xbox, it has no way to know that's part of the original game because it's physically a different DVD. So unless you want to put the entire game on the DVD, and distribute that... We don't have a way to deliver it. It's something we really hope Microsoft find an answer to.

He also mentioned that Bethesda is producing one more piece of downloadable content for Oblivion that will be released after Shivering Isles.

Bruce Nesmith said:
It's "a fighter stronghold kind of thing", Nesmith said. "It's the one character class that we haven't really dealt with yet so it'll be something for those guys who are into the heavy armour and the big, big sticks".

Awesome! I hope they go through with this, because Xbox Live isn't happening for me anytime soon. What about the 'Knights of the Nine' expansion? Was that only downloadable through Live or did I just miss it?

Here is quote from Bethesda:

Bethesda said:
The retail version will be PC only, at this time. We are very interested in having a retail SKU for Xbox 360 but apparently there are some issues with that on the console side and so we can't do it right now. Should things change, we absolutely would make Knights available at retail for Xbox 360. We're very disappointed we aren't able to at this time.

The disc for PC includes Knights of the Nine plus all the other downloadable content (DLC). So you have to own Oblivion and have it installed to play it.

Re: Bethesda Gives Non-Live Subscribers Hope!

Yeah, I have Oblivion on both the 360 and the PC (don't ask me why) and I got the download disc for the Knights expansion, but if they are having difficulties with the Knights disc expansion for the 360, does this mean they will have trouble with the Shivering Isles disc expansion as well?

Well seems they are determined to sort the issue out and really want to make retail versions so i think they will find a way around it.
