Bioshock 2 To Come In 2009?

The rumours are already flying about a sequel to 2K Games highly rated Xbox 360 and PC title Bioshock. Take Two's chairman recently said the following:

Strauss Zelnick said:
I would say, probably, roughly an every-two-year schedule would be optimal. And if you look historically that has been largely the case with GTA, and I'd expect we'd apply roughly the same strategy to BioShock because BioShock is shaping up to be a very important franchise. I don't want to say more than that about BioShock because I certainly don't want to jinx it, but I feel awfully good about where that's going.

Yeah, I read an article about it elsewhere. The sales of Bioshock have done amazingly well, thus allowing them to definitely go for creating sequels. But we'll see how it does against the competition when FEAR 2 & Gears Of War 2 are to be released. :shifty:

Well Bioshock is the highest rated game ever made now so im sure it welcomes competition.

FEAR wasn't really my thing (in fact, I really didn't enjoy it. Personal preference, eh.) nor was Gears of War (for reasons I can't put my finger on) soooo...Yeah, I know where my money is. I liked Bioshock's vague investigative/adventure elements, personally (the audio diaries and ghost siting et cetera), which FEAR and Gears of War don't have.

That's way to soon to me...

F.E.A.R. had the audio recordings to investigate as well... only difference is they were on phones and not tape recorders... and they had "ghost sightings" as well... =]
but anyhoo...

I would love to get my hands on more Bioshock ^_^
would be really interesting to see where they could take the storyline and such ^_^

Re: Bioshock 2 To Come In 2009?

Bioshock is not the game for a sequel. I see no sequel coming soon, nor do I want to. This game has a strong story that basically ended when the last clip was played, there are no things to continue. Though, there are some things to be revealed, this doesn't mean 2k has to make a whole new game.

2k even stated that they were not planning on making a sequel, even though there will be some cool downloadable content coming soon ^_^

But, I think Bioshock is the best game I have ever played, and it probably will be my favorite for a long time. I mean, a long time. It might be my favorite of all time, period.

The story was fantastic, the music was genious, and the gameplay just pwns. Andit has just so much feeling to it. Hate to say it, be I have no desire for a sequel. I feel like what happens to the future of Rapture is for the player to decide...in and out of the game.

Maybe a prequel...but I doubt it at the most.

Just because I have this opinion, this opinion will never change for me:

Mr. Bubbles will live on forever in video game history. And so will Bioshock.

Re: Bioshock 2 To Come In 2009?

A prequel could work or black market plasmids hit the big city

Re: Bioshock 2 To Come In 2009?

Actually, I did watch an interview where members of the team said they DID think about things that would happen AFTER Bioshock, in the future, to Rapture and stuff.

And Hex: Yeah, my bad. I didn't find FEAR interesting for other reasons, that was actually aimed at Gears Of War. Been absent-minded today >_<"

Re: Bioshock 2 To Come In 2009?

I think a sequel could work quite well and there is much more expansion they could do with the story. Although it was tightly woven and well thought out and came to a great conclusion i cant help but thing they could push things that bit further into the story and maybe unearth some more conspiracies.

Re: Bioshock 2 To Come In 2009?

I'd like to see a "prequel sequel". Would be alot more interesting to see the downfall of Rapture first hand rather than them picking up where Bioshock left off. To be honest, the ending, well the 'evil' one, was highly dissapointing and if you ask me doesn't seem to make for a really interesting sequel.

A prequel where you get to see Rapture in all it's glory, then be there to witness the downfall would be down-right awesome.

Id have to agree there, seeing it in all its dreamt of majesty to what it becomes. Seeing the very first Splicer and them start to get hooked on ADAM.

Games have also had canon or default endings, where no matter which one you selected, there is a set way that the official story has transpired.... if they went that way, they could easily follow the "good" storyline, as it leaves Rapture largely unchanged and could see what happens to the citizens after your visit...

Well yeah. But wouldn't you rather want to see a 'different' Rapture in Bioshock 2 than the one in Bioshock? I mean... a newly built Rapture in all of it's glory. What if you get to play as some high class doctor or scientist? Perhaps we even get to meet Andrew Ryan and shake his hand!

Pure unadulterated awesomness.

Re: Bioshock 2 To Come In 2009?

If it is indeed going to be in just two years they would need to reuse a lot of what has already been done. I don't see being the same character for many reasons. I would love to see rapture in it's heyday

Re: Bioshock 2 To Come In 2009?

I really think a sequel would ruin Bioshock and its meaning, but that's just me. I believe this is not a game to continue, 2k might have said that they considered doing more with Bioshock, but I believe that doesn't mean a sequel.

2k should indeed go on with their gaming career, because 2k boston and australia proved to me that they really mean business. I don't want to see another Rapture, I want to see another masterpeice that they can craft.

I would like...meh, maybe a prequel series? Maybe a prequel game. I agree with tsuyu, the downfall of Rapture is like the downfall Rome, it should be something everyone should know about

The story arc is just waiting to be unraveled, not continued. There are so many secrets in the world of Rapture, and i'm dying to find out what.

Re: Bioshock 2 To Come In 2009?

The only problem I see with a prequal would be the ending. You'd almost certainly have to die; while that may sound fine in most works of fiction, it generally makes video game players frustrated. Hmm...

Actually, what might be kind of interesting: A game from the viewpoint of a member of Ryan's police force that's mentioned in the game. Sounds like moral choices up the wazoo, considering some of the things they were ordered to do. And it would definitely be a vastly different game, for good or ill: You'd have to deal with large numbers of people who are still sane, for example. (Rapture's population did number in the thousands). On the other hand, it would introduce a fourth (er...Fifth counting the security bots), maybe even more unpredictable type of enemy: The un-Spliced, normal human being.

I'm not worried either way, though. THey did say they had ideas for things that would happen both before and after Bioshock, and we clearly haven't seen the entire city. Not to mention they apparently left "Swimming" for the sequal. Whoo. I don't recommend knocking any of the possibilities unless they turn out crappy.

Re: Bioshock 2 To Come In 2009?

Well, you don't have2 to die because:

*Bioshock ending spoiler*
The 'bad' ending in Bioshock showed us some splicers reaching the surface via some sort of' 'escape pod'.

So I don't think we should be so ready to say that nobody escaped the fall of Rapture.

Re: Bioshock 2 To Come In 2009?

Yeah, you're right.

The bathspheres also appear in large numbers in the Good Ending. I guess the implication is that one way or another, splicers left Rapture.

It just seemed unlikely when I wrote it >_<" But it occurs to me that in said prequal
, you would definitely have to be one of Ryan's inner circle or a relative thereof. As an aside, I guess arguably a sequal wouldn't have this problem, as Jack Ryan one way or the other probably deactivated the locks.
