Bioshock Released Early For Some

2K's upcoming shooter, Bioshock, had it's release date broken earlier today when some store clerks at a single Toys R Us began selling copies of the game well before the official release date. Soon after, for some unknown reason, other Toys R Us stores began also selling the game.

I just got off the phone with one of the PR guys over at 2K. According to him, this whole situation was just a broken street date by some Toys R Us employees who didn't know Bioshock had a street date (or didn't care), and the resulting snowball effect that caused. At this point 2K isn't entirely sure why so many Toys R Us stores went and sold the game early ("It's not like street dates are a new concept"), but they are going to look into it once they put out this fire.

So far, it appears the street date was broken only at American locations: Columbus, Ohio; Boca Raton, Florida and Portland, Oregon. The few lucky *******s who managed to pick themselves up a copy have been racing around the net showing off their photos and XBL Achievements... but the rest of us will have to wait another week.

looks like it's a little of both

It recently came to 2K Games’ attention that one of our retail partners prematurely sold some copies of BioShock prior to the game’s official launch date. Retailers are typically shipped product in advance to ensure they can meet launch day demand on street-dated product. As a result, a few people were able to purchase the game early. Additionally, a TV advertisement for BioShock prematurely ran that incorrectly indicated that the game was available for purchase. 2K Games has reached out to our retail partners and is maintaining the street date of August 21st in North America and August 24th in Europe, when BioShock will be available at retailers. 2K Games is appreciative of the gamer excitement and critical acclaim leading up to the title’s launch.

One place in the states is offering it for $10 off

Retailer to offer Bioshock for Xbox 360 at $49

Seems to be only the PC Version Online though

yeah, I know here Futureshop is offering it for $10 off as well, games in Canada are usually $69, but they're selling it for $59, which is why I just preordered it off them :lol:
