Bioware/Obsidian Help/Info

Lately a number of people have been mentioning having troubles with specific Bioware/Obsidian titles, or just asking general questions about them.
I'm making this thread for anyone with ANY questions about the massively successful hits KotOR, KotOR II, and Jade Empire,and any others you may be wondering about. As well as any potential questions about future titles and just general info on the companies that you can't find in any other threads.

Bioware has been named on IGN's Top 20 PC and Top 25 XBox Games of All Time.

For PC, Baldur's Gate: Shadows of Alm ranked #7

Not exactly sure which "hook swords" you're referring to, do you mean these?

OK this is weird and may just be a glitch.
In Jade Empire have two games going. In both of them I had reached the place just before you go fight Gao the Greater in one of the there is a guard that I can't talk to and can't fight but can't get past. The other game there wasn't a guard there. I just walked right past. As a note, the one where I can't get past the the guard. I was very weak and needed to find a shrine to replenish my chi so I left the area and came back. The guard was there before I left but I may have screwed it up somehow by leaving. I'm just going to go back to a previous spot in that game unless there is something that you Know I need to do but haven't

So, let me get this straight... you're on your way to kill Gao, and there's guards... but they're not attacking you, they're just blocking your way? If that's the case, that's a glitch... anything and everything with the exception of Kang should be trying to tear you a new one... and if you can't get by that could be a problem... unless I've just misunderstood you...

well, as I've already told you, I have never played WoW... so I really couldn't compare them...

KotOR's combat is a turn based system which works on the d20 rolls...

you have a selection of moves and abilities which grows as you level up through the game... some will be passively active and add to your abilities, while others will give you new moves in combat...
you can cycle through those to pick in sequence which you would like to do...
whether or not you hit or are hit is dependent on your stats, your opponents stats, and any bonuses from your armour or implants... a roll is then made and if your hit ranks higher than their defense, they take damage... same for you when they attack you... there are also "saving throws" in which the roll is low enough that damage is taken, but high enough that the damage is only half what it would have been...

and that's how combat works...

I hope that answers your question... because I don't know what you meant by "sitting there"... that doesn't sound like combat to me... you're obviously moving around...

Yup that's the size of it Thanks ^_^ fortunately JE has a great save system so it won't be too hard to go back to before the area. A reppy for you :D

yeah, I really like the fact that the game doesn't require using a checkpoint system to save,probably due to how open ended the gameplay is, so if you're feeling Boss activities up ahead you can just save away ^_^

Posted this elsewhere about Fable, but thought I'd mention that Bioware has been named by ActionTrip as having made 2 of the top 10 RPG's of all time, with Baldur's Gate ranking in at number 8, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic ranking in at number 4.
