Black & White; Will it Ever Return?

On my list of favorite games I've ever played, and on games I've played, Black & White is #1 on all of them. It was a nearly perfect game, but the sequel did not live up to expectations. Instead of trying to get the people to believe in you, you either conquered them or made them Europe in the 1700's and 18'00s while you made America. Didn't like it, but the Creature Fighting was a big advancement. I loved how my lion jumped on them and started tearing their face off.

But, will they ever continue the series? The B&W franchise was fantastic, had potential, and still does. I just want them to take the original's elements and open-ended spirit and combine it with the sequel's creature combat and the armies (not the conquering and migrating; I personally did not like that).

So, does anyone think a third could be created in the future? If they don't, at least they gave B&W modding tools and replay value.

Re: Black & White; Will it Ever Return?

I think it could be continued and much more could be done with the Black And White franchise.

Re: Black & White; Will it Ever Return?

i dont think so, after all theres not gonna be a lionhead anymore right? im pretty sure theyve finished milking that goat

Re: Black & White; Will it Ever Return?

It's still Lionhead, but I did read something at Lionhead, saying they were shutting Black and White down. I'll have to double check, on that, toomorrow, about how they worded it.:(

Re: Black & White; Will it Ever Return?

Oh god, I hope they don't. By far it's their greatest achievement.

Re: Black & White; Will it Ever Return?

I could never really get into B&W for some reason.

Re: Black & White; Will it Ever Return?

I was reading about black & white for the DS but it said it was cancelled it would have been a great game

Re: Black & White; Will it Ever Return?

The official Black And White forums are still active and i cant find any news about no more ever being made.

Re: Black & White; Will it Ever Return?

i think the black and white series are pretty dead. the next game from lionhead after fable 2 is gonna be fable 3 or a total new game

LOL, I was going to say that. I hope Dimitri, is as good as Fable, but they really haven't released any information, outside of some possible pictures. Maybe after Fable 2 is released, we'll hear a lot more.

I heard that version of it as well. Not too sure on the details, but someone at Lionhead even gave the official word that they would not continue the series. I say, why not ride the gravy train- people loved the game! Why not cash in on your biggest success than disappoint the world as your audience? That's just me, but seriously!

Re: Black & White; Will it Ever Return?

B&W was an odd game, to me, it was boring, dull, repetetive and well... too damn difficult. The only way I could earn some following was to destroy the village I was conquering. And if I had enough faith, throw some fireballs and rain down some water to increase tree growth.
And the creature... I couldn`t do anything with it. I just didn`t know what to do.

Oh yeah, and one village I had to conquer was a big fan of another god, then I finally got the village faith points to zero and conquered it. To my demise, the other god recaptured the village and instead of starting to build up the people`s faith from zero, he got a full 10 000 faith instantly. I, ofcourse had to decrease that 10k to 0 again.:getlost:

Re: Black & White; Will it Ever Return?

I never managed to get round to playing Black & White 2 but I used to adore the first Black & White game when it was first released. I used to play it over and over again and practise teaching my creature new things and see how believable the AI could be. I think I was around 13 or so when I first played it so my standards weren't all that high but, regardless, I still couldn't get over just how cool it was to have a creature that could seemingly think and be taught right from wrong.

I like that I can finally run the game at full-spec now with my notebook. It used to chug a long at a poor framerate (even at 800x600 resolution and all details turned down to low) on my second oldest computer.

Makes me want to play it again now. ^_^

Re: Black & White; Will it Ever Return?

Yeah, the it has almost the highest replay value in my eyes. There is an awesome guide on creature training. It seems brutal on the creature, but being constantly nice won't do. If the creature is frightened, slap him in the face. My ape stopped being scared after awhile... MY tiger stopped eating everyone, and the ape, well, he was able to conquer an entire village by himself. Without me even knowing he did it. With kindness. I taught him the following miracles:

Food
Food Increased ( Modded Skirmish Map)
Wood
Water
Water Increased ( Modded Skirmish Map )
Heal
Heal Increased ( Modded Skirmish Map )
Flock of Birds ( Modded Skirmish Map )

And taught him when to eat, when to sleep, what to water, what to feed, when to cast his miracles, not to be playful, be very curious, and how to take care of himself. Survivor Ape, the new TV show, eh?
