Re: Blockbuster backs Blu-Ray

I think it will do well in the long run but i dont think it will surpass HD by much.

Yea but it might just be enough to tip the scales. Right now it seems to be cost vs quality

Also still not enough people know what Blu Ray is and Sony seem arrogant to the fact that people are going to buy PS3's as a Blu Ray DVD player also when infact 75% dont use that part of it.

Re: Blockbuster backs Blu-Ray

Good point Not many people even own an HDTV percentage wise

Realy? Do they have HD-DVD?

Re: Blockbuster backs Blu-Ray

Blu-ray is the future.

Re: Blockbuster backs Blu-Ray

Looks that way. It'll be good for the HD format war to end. It's not helping anything move along. Chances are good that 1TB+ (1000GB) storage isn't too far out.
Check out this doc that talks about Blu-Ray and HD-DVD and Holographic Disc Storage
http://maxell-usa.com/getpdf.aspx?id=203

Unlike other technologies that record and read one data bit at a time, holographic
technology records and reads one million bits of data with a single flash of light.
There's the future for ya and this is projected in less than three years

Re: Blockbuster backs Blu-Ray

Such storage just isnt needed right now and is putting pressure on developers to fill the discs up. Hardly any games are using max space on discs these days which is unfortunate and making that capacity bigger so soon just adds to making developers look lazy.

Re: Blockbuster backs Blu-Ray

Blu-ray in my opinion is currently a tempermental technology and needs time to advacne before it should be used more. also blu-ray readers in my opinion cost way to much.

check this link has a funny thing involving blu-ray

Uh...Yeah. That's what's kind of weird. They have PS3 games, yes, but I haven't seen any Blu-Ray movies.

Then again, I also don't know anyone locally with a Blu-Ray player. And only a few with a PS3...They're lining the shelves right now. If I felt like it, I guess now would be the perfect time to pick it up. >_<"

And as wonderful as having more space is...I mean, good Lord. We're not even filling up the current stuff (Which is a shame, especially considering most of it's devoted to graphics in the first place!). There's no point to it yet.

Ive seen 2 Blu Ray players (very expensive) but no Blu Ray movies as of yet so far in my travels.

Re: Blockbuster backs Blu-Ray

I've check availability between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD movies and it seems about even.

From Bestbuy
Blu-Ray 261 Items Available
HD-DVD 271 Items Available

Not actually in the stores though, i heard a guy doing a questionnaire in town the other week and a lot of people had no idea what Blu Ray even was and were choosing HD.

Thats interesting. It would be funny if one technology won here and a different won in the UK or elsewhere.
Me I think I'll wait for the HHD DVVDD BVD

I think for a while they will go along side by side just fine and people will just have a personal preference. HD wont start going downhill for a long time yet until the disks just simply become to small storage wise. Then i bet they just simply re-design them.

Your probably right about that. From what I understand High Def movies only take about 8-10 GB That leaves plenty of room for even really long movies like 300 to fit
But perhaps you could fit all the Star Wars movies in High Def on one double sided Blu-Ray disc but it would take two double sided HD-DVDs. Like anyone would care.
