Blue Dragon Getting Rave Reviews In Japan

The Xbox 360 RPG Blue Dragon has been given top marks in the latest issue of highly-respected Japanese mag Famitsu, receiving scores of 9, 9, 9 and 10 from is panel of reviewing editors.

Giving the RPG a final score of 37/40, which may raise hopes for Microsoft that they might crack Japan yet.

The games artwork is all drawn by Akira Toriyama who is obviously famous in Japan as the man behind the legendary Dragon Ball & Dragon Ball Z Series, the Dragon Quest games, and also legendary SNES RPG Chrono Trigger. Pre-orders for the special edition Blue Dragon 360 bundle have already sold out across Japan.

Microsoft has revealed that its goal is to sell 200,000 copies of Blue Dragon in Japan, which in turn would make it one of the best selling 360 games to date in the country.

Could this be the turning point for Microsoft in the Far East?

Was just about to say that - any manga/anime game will be a smash success in Japan, so they might be taking this "victory" for more than it is.

"Akira Toriyama who is obviously famous in Japan as the man behind the legendary Dragon Ball & Dragon Ball Z Series, the Dragon Quest games, and also legendary SNES RPG Chrono Trigger"

See what I mean?

Yeah but if they can sell 200,000 copies it will be one of highest selling 360 titles in Japan so is a massive success!

but DBZ isn't chibi, (as my boyfriend argue's other wise; "You've hardly seen any of it") and neither are hardly any other animes.

My point is more that anything with anime in it in Japan will be a huge success, not that it is chibi or any other special genre, so they shouldn't really be celebration too much.

The game looks interesting. I was also a huge fan of Chrono Trigger. Game success is equal parts of knowing your market (Tsuyu’s good point) and good advertising. Microsoft has always had an excellent marketing plan. So it comes at no surprise that when an opportunity comes along for the Japanese player base that Microsoft wouldn’t make every effort to please their customers.

Re: Blue Dragon Getting Rave Reviews In Japan

Unfortunately no, by the time it came out I was locked into so many other things I never had time. However that is one thing I will remedy this summer. One of my hobbies now is finding old games that I missed out on playing when I was younger and collecting them and playing them now. My wife really enjoys my collections of old Super Nintendo games.

I've been trying to do that. I need to Find Quack Shot, Bubsy, and Thunder Force again (as well as a few others). I had them before, but I lost them. MY dad played straight through bubsy once, and quack shot. It was awesome. That's why Sega's more challenging Ya can't save. :D

Chrono Trigger is a REALLY good game and Chrono Cross ties into it. So that's a good thing. tell me what you think when you play it. Because it's awesome. but we're getting off topic here.

I think the blue dragon looks cool. :)
