Almost five hundred years after the Hero of Oakvale defeated Jack of Blades, the Fairfax family controls Bowerstone. To gain a complete grasp of the situation, we must connect it to past situations.

Castle Fairfax was originally Bowerstone Manor, and Bowerstone was ruled by the Grey family. The Hero of Oakvale (canonically) exposed Lady Grey, the current Mayor of Bowerstone, for the murder of her sister. Afterwards, angry citizens deposed Lady Grey, eventually accusing her of witchcraft, dismembering her, and burning Bowerstone Manor to the ground.

(Note: Although Bowerstone Manor was used as a base of operations for the Grey Family, it was not government property, and therefore was not inherited by an incumbent mayor. The Hero of Oakvale ruled from his own private property.)

The Hero of Oakvale (canonically) became the Mayor of Bowerstone after Lady Grey was deposed. From this we can determine that Sparrow was the rightful heir to the title of Town Mayor.

Now comes the most mysterious part of the story: During the course of five hundred years, we can assume that the average lifespan is sixty-five years of age, since that was the age when the Hero of Oakvale stopped aging in Fable I.

Ideally, there would have been seven and a half generations after the Hero of Oakvale.

In the Tales of Albion it is mentioned that, as civilizaton evolved and technology was developed, citizens' contempt for Heroes grew. It can be guessed that there was a rebellion against a Hero-ruled government and that the Hero in power was overthrown.

It is most likely that the Hero-government was overthrown one to two centuries before the birth of Rose and Sparrow.

Who replaced the Heroes? The Fairfaxes.

After the Heroes were removed from power, the citizens of Albion proposed a new rank, the rank of baron (or lord), and elected someone from the Fairfax family.

Now we come to the question of Castle Fairfax. How did the Fairfax family acquire it?

For at least a century, the Fairfax family ruled from their own private property; there was no castle in Bowerstone, only an empty lot where Bowerstone Manor once stood.

After making his fortune, renowned alchemist Leo Head built a castle on the ruins of Bowerstone Manor.
After his death, someone known as "The Count" bought the castle and committed many horrible acts there. (In hierarchy, a count ranks higher than a lord or baron. In this case, since he was known only as "The Count", we can assume that he either had power in a foreign countship, or that the title was honorific; in any event, he did not usurp the authority of the Town Mayor.)

Eventually, the Fairfax family bought the castle, and it was thenceforth used as the primary residence of the current Lord/Lady Fairfax.

Returning to the previous topic, the overthrow of the Hero-government:

My assumption is that the Hero-government was overthrown one hundred to two hundred years before the birth of Rose and Sparrow. The reason for that assumption is that Lucien's grandmother had the title of Lady, which would at least put the rebellion 65 years before the birth of Rose and Sparrow. However, I believe that over time, longevity would have increased, and Lucien's grandmother may have recieved her title eighty years before our Heroes were born. Even so, it is likely that there was at least one generation of Fairfaxes before Lucien's grandmother and grandfather, and that raises the figure even higher, to one hundred to two hundred years.

After at least two generations of Fairfax rule, Lucien Fairfax inherited the lordship. After the death of his wife and daughter, he plunged into a deep depression, until one night an old woman appeared to him in his dreams, telling him that he had one hope of resurrecting his family; the Spire. He began to research the Old Kingdom and anything related to it. The old woman, obviously Theresa, aided Lucien in his plans, and even went so far as to supply a trader named Murgo with an Old Kingdom artifact.

After planting the music box, Theresa tracked down the last two descendants of the Hero of Oakvale's bloodline, Rose and Sparrow. (We can assume that their mother and father were simple folk, and that the Hero-government had been overthrown a few generations before. Since Sparrow is still very young at the beginning of Fable II, we can assume that Rose and Sparrow's parents died one or two years prior.)

Rose and Sparrow buy the music box, use it, and eventually are taken to Castle Fairfax to meet Lord Lucien, who has heard about their purchase. When the two arrive at the castle, Lucien performs a test to determine whether or not they are of the Hero bloodline. Since it has been prophesied (perhaps by Theresa) that four Heroes are needed to stop Lucien from using the Spire, (a Hero of Strength, a Hero of Skill, a Hero of Will, and a distinctly separate Hero of Strength, Skill, and Will), he frantically searches through books and papers to determine if Rose and Sparrow are any of the three Heroes. He realizes that they are not, and that either Rose or Sparrow is the fourth Hero, a Hero of all three disciplines. Knowing this, he shoots Rose, and then Sparrow. Rose eventually bleeds to death, while Sparrow, who was shot out of a window, lies motionless on the pavement until rescued by Theresa.

Theresa raises Sparrow until he is old enough to take his revenge on Lucien for the murder of Rose (although Theresa indirectly caused Rose's death). She tells him that he must gather three Heroes in order to stop Lucien.

The first is the Hero of Strength. Sparrow meets the Hero, Hannah, but she turns out to be a pacifist monk. Theresa remarks that Hammer will need a reason to fight, and advises Lucien to kidnap Hannah's father, the Abbot of the Temple of Light. When Lucien sends a guard to kidnap the Abbot, Hannah arrives just as the guard is about to take the Abbot away. The guard warns Hannah that he will shoot the Abbot if she comes any closer, but she does not attack the guard because of her pacifist vow. However, when the guard actually shoots her father, Hannah forgets her vow and kills the guard. After the Abbot's funeral, Theresa appears to Hannah, and convinces her to join the Hero of Bowerstone against Lucien.

The second Hero, the Hero of Will, resides in Brightwood in a huge tower. By the time the Hero of Bowerstone arrives, Lucien has already been warned, and sends his Commandant to kidnap Garth, the Hero of Will, and bring him to the Spire. The Hero of Bowerstone must then win an Arena-like contest called The Crucible, since Lucien recruits the winners as guards. After he sails to the Spire from Westcliff, the Hero is trained to be a Spire guard. As part of his uniform, he is fitted with a collar that shocks him if he disobeys orders. He has to work as a guard in the Spire until Garth focuses enough Will to kill a Spire guard and destroy both his collar and the Hero's. After the Hero kills Lucien's Commandant, he and Garth fight their way to the ship that new recruits arrive on and sail back to Westcliff. Theresa again appears and recruits Garth.

Hannah, known called Hammer, finds out that the third Hero is a pirate named Reaver. He lives in Bloodstone in a huge mansion, and is not very fond of visitors. After finding out that the Hero escaped from the Spire, he sends him away on an errand. While the Hero is gone, Reaver contacts Lucien and plans to turn the Hero over to him in exchange for a reward. However, when the Hero returns, it becomes evident to Reaver that Lucien is gunning for him as well. Together the Hero and Reaver fight their way out of Reaver's back passage. When they get outside, Hammer and Garth are waiting for them. Reaver attempts to flee but his ship is destroyed by a Shard. The four Heroes band together and destroy the shard, then are teleported by Theresa to Hero Hill.

Sparrow stands in a circle in the middle of Hero Hill, while the other three Heroes stand around him in smaller circles. While they perform a ritual needed to "call forth a great weapon to defeat Lucien", Theresa dissappears to alert Lucien that the Heroes are all together on Hero Hill. He arrives, kidnaps the three Heroes, then shoots Sparrow, sending him into a dream-like state.

Lucien has now proclaimed himself King of Albion, and is preparing to make his wish in the Spire. While he drains the energy from the three Heroes, Sparrow realizes that he is not dead, but in Paradise.

He and Rose live on a farm in Paradise, and she plays with him all day, shooting bottles, killing beetles, chasing chickens, and the like. When it gets dark, she tells Sparrow to go to bed. Sparrow wakes up in the middle of the night and hears a familiar tune; the tune of the Old Kingdom music box. Rose screams for him not to leave her alone again, but Sparrow cannot escape his destiny, and follows the sound. He walks through a corridor of dead bodies until he at last reaches the music box, the Weapon. He is now ready to face Lucien.

Lucien is almost strong enough to make his wish when the Hero appears. The Hero turns the music box and it reverses the power flow from Lucien to the Hero. Weak and helpless, Lucien makes one last desperate speech before being shot.

With Lucien gone, Theresa now allows Sparrow to make the wish Lucien would have made.

After making the wish, Sparrow returns to the outside world, leaving Theresa alone in the Spire; she has claimed ownership.

The Hero of Bowerstone builds a huge real estate empire, eventually gaining the title of King; this is only natural, since the former government has been abolished with the death of Lucien (he had no living heirs).

By Fable III, the government of Bowerstone has gone from a mayorship to a lordship to a kingdom, and all in only a few centuries. That's some accomplishment.

And, to quote Forrest Gump, "That's all I got to say, about that."
