buying and selling

I'm having a hard time getting the buying and selling trick to work (i.e. I choose buy all from a merchant that has that particular item listed in green; then I go to sell that same item back to the same merchant and choose sell all; but I am left with less money than I had before I started the process). Can someone tell me what I might be doing wrong or give me more specific instructions on how to do this?

Re: buying and selling

Try teleporting to different locations. I didi it between Oakvale and Bowerstone South. Had large amounts of money in a couple of minutes.

Re: buying and selling

Aah..the age old problem of being screwed over by the shopkeepers...hence why I usually stab them first and sell stuff later ;)

Okey dokey - it's all about your skill in Guile (under the Skill section). Level that up and you will find you are more persuasive when it comes to getting people to buy at a decent price off you. Buying and selling will help increase your skill points in order to level up anyway, so don't hang around until they are maxed out...just keep plugging away and soon you'll be the one ripping them off :D

Yes, its hopeless without Guile.

Re: buying and selling

Do I need max Guile? Because I have 5 or 6 right now.

Re: buying and selling

No, not max. Lowr levels will do fine, but profit isn`t as big.
The main thing is you are making money, not losing it.

who did you buy/sell from and what did you buy/sell and how much of that item did you buy/sell?

Re: buying and selling

Try this: After the arena, you should have enough $$ for this to work. Go to Oakvale, enter the ggeneral items shop, and buy all of his gems. Sleep for a few days, come back and he'll have restocked. Buy the new ones, but don't sell any. Repeat this about 4 more times, or until you run out of cash, then sell 'em all back for a huge profit ;)

Re: buying and selling

OK, I will try. One problem though. Whenever I enter the merchant's shop, he reports me to the gards. How do I get him to stop?

Re: buying and selling

I'm not. I'm going in during the middle of the day. Also, I am able to go in the Weapons and Armor shops without any problems.

Re: buying and selling

I've had that glitch - guy in Oakvale would rat me out no matter what time I turned up...could never get it to stop either so just shop elsewhere or nick his stuff :D

Re: buying and selling

HodgePodge, is it possible to do this before I get to the Arena? Because right now I am on the Save the Archeologist quest.
Also, I would like to know what I should be buying selling.

Re: buying and selling

Yes it's possible to do that superairboy, but then you wouldnt have the huge pile of cash the arena generates...

Re: buying and selling

Well, making some money doing this would be better than loosing money.
Also, I was thinking. I have a Scariness of 0. Would this have anything to do with this not working for me? Note: I have an Attractiveness of 100, 6 Renown, max Guile, and am totally good (with the halo and butterflies).

Re: buying and selling

Scariness shouldn't affect how much money you make...in fact, the more scary you become, the harder it is to get the shop keeper to stand still long enough to barter with. As you are fully good, he's probably one stop short of throwing himself at your feet

Yeah, you do.I have mine MAX out.Altho,it doesn't give the money like you think.I got alot of money by doing the flowing:-Doing the house trick(The one were you break down your doors, put up your thopthies, then sell, then buy back)-Killed everyone in oakvle. Then bought the houses.Run out of there 4 a long time.-Rented out the houses.Sleeped then got my money. If your aiming for good, get alot of money then save at the temple of Avo.Go to where you donte.Donte all of your money.Qickly, keep tapping the A button. When you get to donte again, you will see that on the right, you'll have your money still.Still donte 0$.You will see good, but no money being lost.Press back to see of you have your money still.NOTE:I HAVE FABLE THE LOST CHAPTERS FOR XBOX.I'M NOT SURE IT WORKS FOR ANYTHING ELES.SORRY BOUT MY SPELLING.

Re: buying and selling

I think I may have figured out why I haven't been making any money buying and selling. I think it has to do with using the Hero Save exploit. It's just a theory though. During the Archaeologist quest I used the Hero Save exploit a few times and during that time I gained a lot of experience. I decided during one of these runs to increase my Guile. And so I went to the Guild (during the quest) and leveled up my Guile. After doing this I Hero Saved and then Loaded from that save. I think that since Hero Saving does not save any changes you make to the World that when I Hero Saved and then Loaded from that save, the changes I had made to the World (i.e. Merchant prices) had been undone (as if I had never increased my Guile).
I was wondering if this is possible and if someone could confirm this for me (i.e. try it out)?
Also, can anyone tell me how I might test my theory to see if it is correct?
