We can own a store, but someone else runs it, or you would always be there. They have said we can be a bartender, and live upstairs, with the family. The list of jobs tells us, what we can run.

I have 200k and I bought pub games yesterday - I'm gonna buy EVERYTHING once Fable hits the store...
omfg I just realized, it's not gonna be hard to be Emperor of Albion -_-
