Can Power Scaling block my progress?

All,

So I'm brand new to Fable 2. I got it a couple of weeks ago.

I have a tendency in all games to re-play through dungeons / unsafe areas in all games. I like as much experience as I can get before moving ahead. So, I repeated several of the repeatable dungeons (like the Hobbes cave) early on and I got a LOT of experience. I also noticed I could buy experience potions by waiting on rent and waiting a week in town, and doing that over and over.

Well, I noticed enemies scale with me. Now, simple bandits are really tough and block a lot. I can handle them, but they are WAY tougher.

(TL/DR) I have this plan to scum XP potions from my rent until my Str and Skill stats are all 5 stars and a few of my Magic spells are 3-5 stars. Is that gonna make the enemies scale up so powerful that I can't even get past the common foes like bandits, cause they are all masters like I am?

(TL/DR2) Also, is scaling based on max stars or total experience? In other words, do the foes cap out on difficulty as soon as any skill hits 5 stars, or will having 6 different skills at 5 stars make them even harder?

Thanks!

Re: Can Power Scaling block my progress?

My very first Fable 2 playthrough was before I had XBL, so there were tons of glitches and such. I got enough XP to have completely maxed stats as soon as I could get into Oakfield.
As far as I know, you should be able to make it. I've never reached a spot that I couldn't advance through in all the twelve playthroughs I've done. :P

So I think you'll be fine. :D

Re: Can Power Scaling block my progress?

Sounds good. I love tedium / grindy things that let me get more powerful as long as I'm willing to sink in the time. Thats why I already own ALL the property that is unlocked, have rent of 10k per ding so far, have 4.3 million gold, and I've not even unlocked anything. :) So I'll probably hang out, collect rent, sleep and buy potions a lot, etc, until everything is 5 stars.

Did you 5-star all your spells too before getting to Oakfield? Or did you only 5-star your physical stats? I have a fear that if I scum 5 or 6 spells to 5 star status, the enemies will be insane.

I've already hit the point that big scripted fights are easy for me because the "rank and file" minions are scaled but the core encounters are set. For example when I did the quest to protect the temple of light from the shadow temple (about the only quest I've done) the assassins protecting the priests were a LOT more challenging than the undead and the main priest you fight in the big chamber.

I personally kinda like this unless I get to where I cant beat the rank-and-file foes. I'm older (43) and I've lost all my old edge for any action gaming, so its nice to be forced into hard fights so that the bosses seem easy by comparison. I need that to keep my edge up.

I'm just worried that if I push time stop, raise dead, and time control all to 5-stars, that bandits will whip my butt. :)

Thanks for the reply.

Okay, firstly, if you're gonna boost your character, there are other ways to do it:

1. Plug in extra controller, sign in as a guest.
2. Become henchman
3. Unlearn all the henchman's skills.
4. Log out of the henchman char
5. Bam! You can increase your total experience by 50% just like that.

Also, I'm unsure if the enemies level with you, but I'm pretty sure they don't actually. I remember on one of my accounts I did ^that exploit as soon as I was out of the guild cave, and I fought regular bandits at Thags.

EDIT: Ninjad. Seriously though, if you're gonna boost your char, use ^that method. You can max (I mean completely 5 star everything) your char in under 45 minutes. Probs less, actually.

Also, I'm pretty sure the enemies don't level with you, as stated above. But when you're an uber char, it doesn't really matter, a 5 star time slow and some flourishes should kill everyone pretty easily.

Re: Can Power Scaling block my progress?

Yup, I had everything to five stars. You should definitely get by fine. Things -may- take a little longer than normal, but you are definitely going to make it without much of a problem.

Purple Nurple,

Wow, thats a heck of a bug if its still present (with the Henchman). I kinda like doing it with the potion scumming though, BECAUSE it takes 10 hours to do. :)

Still, I'll keep it in mind.

As far as level 5 time stop and flourishes, I have a hard time getting flourishes to work. Thats what I meant about being an older player with generally low skills at action gaming and generally poor response time. I know how to do them in my head, but I have a hard time making my hands do it. :) I have a hard time doing the roll move with the A button, and doing the counterstrikes, all of that too. I probably should have focused on Ranged stuff first.

I basically get by with level 4 Raise Dead, because the enemies leave me alone, focus on the undead, and I stab them in the back or just use mindless button-mashing to kill them while they aren't ganging up on me. :)

Sirage0,

Sounds great. I definitely want to hang out around town, chop some wood, forge some blades, periodically buy potions, and just get rich before proceeding. I'll probably 5-star as much as I can, maybe everything, before I continue. Hopefully it will work out.

If I find I've made it too hard to proceed, that's OK, because I'm more entertained by maxing out my stats, being rich, and tinkering with jobs and the economy. Getting revenge and stopping Lucien is secondary, maybe even tertiary, to me. :) But then I'm the guy who has been playing Oblivion since the day it came out and I've not once even STARTED the main quest. :)

Thanks to everyone for the replies!

Re: Can Power Scaling block my progress?

Sounds like me!! I played Oblivion mainly for the sandbox gameplay. I never did the initial storyline until about a year into messing around. By then I was a god. XD

Re: Can Power Scaling block my progress?

The foes do grow with you, but only to a point. I did that henchman "cheat" and maxed what I wanted and was fine even with rusty weapons. It's actually completely unnecessary to max anything before Oakfield. Just busting through all the quests you can before only have the main one is enough for you to get by. This game is not hard in the fighting realm and they are never too hard...ever. I've also gone through the game normally and it was not a challenge. You are fretting over nothing...:P

Yeah, I think the bug is still present - it was one of the first exploits that people found out about and has helped many a cheater before :)

I think melee combat is also harder than ranged, whereas Magic is the hardest. Ranged combat is really easy, so if you're having a hard time, I'd recommend that.
