Co-op Play

So my friend and I are trying to play co-op, but when one of us tries to join the other it gives some message about not being able to join because we don't have the same DLC. What's up with this? Is it talking about all the DLC I got for collector's/preordering/from the Sanctuary? How can we play together?

Make sure you both have downloaded a dlc, if you don't want to buy one, and hey who would blame you, just download the free weapon dlc. If that doesn't work would need more info.

We're trying to play on Xbox Live...I have all the dlc and the collector's/preorder content and he has only the free weapons if that helps...
