Co-Op.

So, I have a question. What IS this ****? Ever since Perfect Dark on the N64, one of my favorite parts of gaming has been sitting down with my brother to take on a campaign. That was a large part of the reason I got him Modern Warfare 2 for his birthday-- I was really looking forward to doing the campaign with him.

And then... there's no co-op campaign. What the hell? I've noticed that a few times in recent years, games that don't have the feature, or worse, are sequels that don't have it.

I mean, okay, MW2 has the specops or whatever mode, where you can do co-op. But why not in the main campaign? Why are so many other games dropping it? It just annoys the **** out of me.

Re: Co-Op.

I too know what you mean, ive always loved co-op in games and so few have a good co-op mode these days. Or they have the mode but its a watered down short version of the main game. Part of the reason i liked the Halo series was it always had a full co-op mode and they even upped it to 4 player co-op. However the co-op players were never included in the story and were treated as if they werent there. So many games could capitalise on this gap in the market and include a good fleshed out co-op but dont for some reason.

Some use the excuse that they cant incorporate co-op characters into the story well enough. Or certain parts of the game wouldnt be as involving or as effective with 2 people as one ends up feeling like a tacked on mute with little involvement to the story. However i think thats just making dire excuses and many companies could pull this off if they tried.

Re: Co-Op.

Admittedly, the only game I remember putting any effort into the co-op beyond that for the single-player campaign was a few of the Splinter Cell series. But I still like them.

And I can kinda see where they're coming from... but it does just sound like excuses.
