Confused by Economy

First off, sorry if this has been posted somewhere and I missed it, but I've looked everywhere. If I couldn't find it I must be completely blind, =/

Anyway, I'm about confused about economy, so I have a couple of questions.

So, Shop wealth

So, I'm looking at this shop, and it says it: Shop Weath: 2.8% Mark up.

This is probably a very obvious question, but does this mean the shop is doing well, or doing bad?

Also, at the top of this shop, under the name (this is when I click the shopkeeper) there are some stars, up to 5. Currently there is only one orange star, but when I bought the shop there was 2 orange stars. How can I improve the star rating of the shop? If I improve the star rating, what does that do?

If the prices are marked up due to shop wealth, it means the economy is doing well, and so it the shop. As for the star rankings, I never paid any attention to the ones on shops or houses, so I wouldn't know.

The stars on houses and shops are just like the stars on gifts. The more stars it has, the higher the quality and price for that particular object or place.
