When you first get into the room with the troll, run right up to it while it's still coming out of the ground, and charge up to a level five Inferno. Unleash it as soon as you see the troll's nerve tendrils are vulnerable. That should take down about half of its health. Once you see that its tendrils are vulnerable again, use a level three or four Time Control (I recommend three because it will take less time to charge), and then hit it with another level five Inferno. If you think that it still has a fair amount of health left, try this one more time, and then start shooting it with a Master Flintlock Pistol (best weapon for getting through the Crucible quickly in my opinion). If you don't think it has all that much health left, go straight for your pistol and start shooting. It also helps to have a few augments on your pistol to allow it to deal more damage, but that's not totally necessary.
