I used to have Budokai on the PS2 but that was a long time ago and after recently watching DBZ Kai, I feel like investing in some games. I'm aware of the Budokai HD Collection and that's probably top of my list but I never really played much after that.

I'm trying to decide between Burst Limit, Raging Blast and Raging Blast 2 along with Ultimate Tenkaichi. From what I've read, Burst Limit is the best out of the four with Ultimate Tenkaichi being the worst but I was hoping for some insight from people who have played these games and was wondering if you could steer me in the right direction so I don't waste my money.

Ultimate Tenkaichi was a huge letdown, and that's coming from a guy who will almost never dislike a game that he buys. Seriously, I'm extremely hard to disappoint with a video game, especially one that I'm anticipating and getting excited for. I wrote a review about Ultimate Tenkaichi here if you want to read it.

Now, the game that I would recommend to you is Raging Blast 2. It has one of the best character roster in any DBZ game (next to the Budokai Tenkaichi series), and the combat is pretty great. At first, it might not seem like the characters have a lot of differences between them, but once you start getting into the game and becoming familiar with the complexities of the combat system (and yes, it's a little complex and can be difficult to figure out on your own), those seemingly small differences between characters become absolutely huge and crucial. If you do end up getting this game, I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have about it, and I'd love to have a few fights with you online.

Just checked the review, thanks! I'm more of a harsh critic myself so I think I'll be avoiding that one! Yeah I was looking at Raging Blast 2, mainly because it's the newest one before Ultimate Tenkaichi and because of it's length.. I was kinda put off about games ending at the Cell saga, found that quite annoying.

Looks like Raging Blast 2 may be the best choice for me so I'll be sure to check it out along with the Budokai HD Collection! I don't currently have XBL Gold but when I do, I'll be sure to give you a few fights.. I've always been more of a Tekken guy myself so bare with me! Thanks for the advice.

I know what you mean. I never understood why they did that for Burst Limit. At least that's the only major DBZ game that stops there.

Ah don't worry, you'll have a hang on the basics if you go through most of the story and whatnot before we fight. I'll probably be pretty rusty myself. It should be fun to come out of retirement. :sly:

Budokai III was always my favourite, been plenty of mediocre ones after that. A real shame that no-one has used the license to its full potential yet. I havent played Raging Blast series however but some people seem to think its the best of a recent 'bad' bunch.

I've heard similar things about Raging Blast but as I haven't played the games a lot, I have nothing to compare it to. I played the demo yesterday and it was enjoyable but difficult, will take getting used to.

As long as you pay attention to the tutorials once you get the game, you'll have the basics down. And once you want more than the basics, feel free to hit me up. I'll answer any questions you have and I can show you some things online.

I never enjoyed the 3D roaming DBZ fighting games. For that reason I can only really recommend Budokai 1-3 and Burst Limit. Despite lacking in content, Burst Limit had some slick graphics and sharp, responsive game mechanics. Out of the DBZ fighting games that came out since the fall of the PS2, Burst Limit is the only one I've gotten any enjoyment out of. Budokai 2 and 3 are both still good buys, with much more content. One of the major bonuses of cell-shading is they don't look too dated playing them today.

And yes Necro, I have given in and tried Raging Blast 2. I gave it days of my time figuring it might become fun once I had mastered it somewhat, but that never happened. They were ambitious to try and expand classic fighting games into a 3d roaming environment, but I think they either lacked in ideas or budget to make it good. What I played felt cheap and I was glad to get $12 for it in trade-in cash. The large pile of delicious Chicken McNuggets I bought with that money was a much better use of the money.
