Well, I thought some of you guys might be interested in this. Some of you might remember, especially you Brian, that a while back I started a Debate thread. Unfortunately, it died before we got a chance to really use it, so I've started a community dedicated entirely to debate. Yes, I am that nerdy :P The site can be found here and if you're interested, I'd really appreciate some registrations. But, more importantly, I'm looking for staff. I know a lot of people from this forum, and if you really are interested, and if you are prepared to lose what little life you may have, I'd really appreciate some staff applicants. Thanks everybody, especially to Steve, who was kind enough to let me post this here without banning me :lol:

Debate threads never do too well. I've made about two before. THe first one did well for about 11 pages, the second didn't go anywhere.

I'm not stopping you, I'm just not going to participate!

Hehehe, give me a good subject and an equal rival and we'll keep things lively for as long as time exists.

I'd have to strongly oppose such a Domain for the following reasons
  1. Debate even when well constructed leads to one person feeling dejected
  2. Most debates are about opposing opinions and not fact which result in both people declaring themselves the winner
  3. Debate often leads to increased tension and increased animosity between otherwise harmonious personages
  4. Most of the argument is a debate are composed of some moronic list of in appropriately used large words that are rarely disambiguated amongst conspiring cohorts of equal bombastitue

:lol: That part made me laugh. If this doesn't work out, I'll probably just end up changing the forum to something else anyway :P

I like debating, like in the odd thread here... but not so much the idea of a site devoted entirely to debating... it's not really conducive to a community... debates are by definition divisive and would just lead to a fragmented member base... which may be what you're going for... but I wouldn't like it :(

Whats wrong with a little competition Hex? You can't live life without being shot down or losing a few times, you gotta bite the bullet and get back up. I think debating is a good thing, and a site devoted to it would help keep unproductive things off of here and anywhere else.

So what if factions are formed, it will be interesting to see how it works out... (I'm into psychology and the human mind, so excuse me if I like to see people argue a little.)

I see what you guys are saying, but I debated for 7 years from middle school up to the end of high school, and part of my first year of college, and I met some of the best mates that I've ever had, and I still know most of them. It only fragments communities when you get into person against person rather than affirmative against negative. It's more about debating just for the sake of debating, rather than actually trying to discredit the other person. Regardless, this site was more of a trial really, to see if I could set up a community, and if it doesn't work out, as it probably won't, I have a few other ideas :D

I never said I didn't like competition or anything about anyone shooting anyone down...
I really don't know what the hell you're talking about O.o
I just gave my opinion on the subject of a debate site, and I just wouldn't like the divisive nature of it all simply because I like the community aspect of a forum...
I never said I didn't think debating was a good thing, I said that I like the odd debate here, I just wouldn't like my every conversation to be a debate... sometimes I like a discussion to just be a discussion, you know?
I really don't know what you are talking about O.o

Well im in, i like the site idea in general. Debates dont have to be an argument, i think this site will be more of a creative disscussion forum. (that may just be me being too optimistic)
