I don't have that problem, maybe it's because I don't shop there until a quest or two. My favorite is the luxerious bed. It gives you good points, over night. If you sleep for 7 days though it gives you bad points with the villagers. It says they think you are lazy.

My furniture store also sells that book(cause it relates to home decorating, so it kinda makes sense for them to sell it), but furniture as well. Maybe their stock is... dead? I don't know. Prolly just a stupid glitch. Bummer to have to deal with, but nothing you can do (that I know of). You could try sleeping for a week and checking back in.
