Deus Ex: Human Revolution is the latest game on the market to be accused of racism by a lot of players, take a guess for which ethnicity it's about. For those who don't see at all why one might come to such conclusion that Square Enix is "racist." Letitia is portrayed as a black woman who speaks Ebonics (a la early 1900s servant girls/boys from the south) digging through garbage cans. Square-Enix commented on it with the following:

"Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a fictional story which reflects the diversity of the world's future population by featuring characters of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. While these characters are meant to portray people living in the year 2027, it has never been our intention to represent any particular ethnic group in a negative light."

What do you guys think?

You're reading this in a Scottish accent aren't you? Racist.

Och, don't be silly ye wee lassie!

Clutching at straws to find controversial material that isnt there id say, could have happened to any race.

I agree, and it does. In my time of playing the game the digging through trash can animations has been recycled among all ethnic groups, mostly white people. Not to mention she's not the only black person in the game, but she is the only one that speaks Ebonics (as far as I've found), the rest speak properly and have a large sense of class to them.

Forget racism - that just sounds like a bloke to me...I saw this the other day and thought it was a wind-up with that voice. Poor woman's got enough issues it seems without racism being one of them...

I didn't really notice anything wrong there, could somebody point out the ebonic words for me?
Also, its just one person, as has been said before, black people don't talk the same or use the same slang in the game. The woman's in a situation where shes poor, maybe her choice of slang reflects that?

What about all the Chinese (I think we were in China when I watched my bud play earlier) hobos that live in the sewers overflowing with water full of excrement? Oh wait, they were Chinese. There is no liberal guilt about the Chinese. So nobody cares if they, quite literally, live in their own sh*t. Had they been black however.. oh lordy, lord!

Reverse racism.

Reverse racism, everywhere.

Ebonics is just another word for the slang talk she was speaking, but I see what you mean as she does come from a poor background.
