Almost immediately after the news of the Assassins Creed movie involving Michael Fassbender it seems another popular game franchise is heading to the big screen. CBS Films has announced it plans to make a movie adaptation of the recent prequel in the Deus Ex franchise, Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
The film will closely follow the game's plot, revolving around "an ex-SWAT security specialist who must learn to embrace the high-tech prostheses that replace much of his body in order to unravel a global conspiracy that involves an attack on a biotechnology firm tied to developing human enhancements.
Adrian Askarieh and Roy Lee will produce, Askarieh is also overseeing a Hitman sequel as well as Just Cause and Kane and Lynch movies. Terry Press, co-president of CBS Films has the following to say about the news:
As is clear from the wild success of the game, Square Enix and Eidos-Montreal know how to exceed their audience's expectations by engineering incredible worlds. No one knows 'Human Revolution' like the team that created it, and we look forward to working with them from day one to make a film adaptation worthy of the 'Deus Ex' name.

Is Uwe Boll directing it? He's not??? .. Whew, dodged a bullet there.

Maybe it's me, but I never got the logic behind making a cinematic presentation around something that was originally cinematic to begin with. Just seems redundant, like the wanting to make a movie of Metal Gear Solid. Just... why?

Indeed. It is like watching a video game (especially since they say the story will be pretty much the same as the game?) but without the ability to play it...

Yeah I know what you mean, at least the story is decent and not much they could screw up as its already half done for them in this respect.

You took the words right out of my mouth.
Making movies of games like these only works if they take the setting and atmosphere of the game and come up with a completely new plot. And I'm not talking about throwing JC Denton into another epic adventure. New characters, new places, new motives.
