Did he?
I saw Arc Caster's thread about this very topic about a week ago, so I thought I'd make a poll to see just how many think the Hero of Oakvale used the Sword of Aeons and how many think he didn't. I also have a few things to say on this subject.
Here's my case. We have three pieces of evidence to suggest that he did or did not wield the Sword of Aeons: Theresa, a book entitled The Hero of Oakvale, and the painting on the wall in the Chamber of Fate.
First, let's just blow through Theresa. Many people have used her existence in Fable 2 to prove their point on this matter, but to me, her presence doesn't mean quite as much. She could still be alive because the Hero of Oakvale actually threw the sword into the vortex, but we have also seen that she is immortal. This means she would have been able to survive being hit by the sword. However, we don't know how, or more importantly when, she became immortal, so it is simply more likely that she is alive because the Hero threw the sword away, but it doesn't quite prove anything.
Next is the book entitled The Hero of Oakvale. This book states that the Hero of Oakvale wielded the Sword of Aeons. However, it has been speculated that this could be a mistake, not by Lionhead, but by the character in the Fable world who wrote the book. The Sword of Aeons could have been confused with Avo's Tear. Avo's Tear was modeled after the Sword of Aeons, after all. We also don't know where the author got this information, or even who the author is. While this is still evidence pointing toward the Hero of Oakvale wielding the Sword of Aeons, it doesn't really prove anything either.
Finally, we have the painting on the wall of the Chamber of Fate that comes from the Hero's first victory over Jack of Blades. Now, Arc Caster said in his thread that this painting only indicates the Hero's alignment during that time and not whether he took the Sword of Aeons or threw it away. This didn't seem right to me, so I tested it. On my latest Hero in TLC, I was as evil as ever. I had flies buzzing around my head, red eyes, red mist around my feet, and massive horns. After I defeated Jack of Blades in the Chamber of Fate, I threw the sword into the vortex. Just as I had expected, the "good" painting showed up. It was in fact the yellow one with the Hero holding his broadsword and wearing a cape with the Eyes of Avo symbol on it, and I was still evil afterward. I may have been less evil because of all the good points I had gotten, but I still had horn stubs. I can accurately say that the painting is dependent upon the Hero's decision in the Chamber of Fate, not his alignment during that time. Unlike the other two pieces of evidence, this does prove something. The painting would not be the way it is in Fable 2 if the Hero of Oakvale wielded the Sword of Aeons.
So did he wield the sword? No.
