Digital Power Struggle

Some of you may or may not be looking to purchase an XBOX 360, Playstation 3, or the Nintendo Wii. Well if you are and cant decide between them, i found an article that might help weigh out the pro's and con's.

360 vs. PS3:
Playstation 3 vs. XBOX 360 - A Game Developer's Perspective - hardCOREware.net

XBOX 360 vs. PS3: an in Depth Look

360 vs. PS3 vs. Wii:
PlayStation 3 vs. Xbox 360 vs. Nintendo Wii — RoughlyDrafted Magazine

This may or may not have been previously posted, but thought some may like to check them out. these are but the tip of the iceberg of articles on the net about this debate.

I personally believe the 360 is a much better system than the PS3 and Wii. I can honestly say this as i own all three systems.

What is your opinion on this?

What system is your personal favorite?

What are your feelings on the pro's and con's of these systems?

Re: Digital Power Struggle

I always knew the 360 was the winner. It's getting the tragic PS3 fanboys to accept it.

Re: Digital Power Struggle

yea 360 from now on. i used to think the ps3 was better, but after playing gears of war, i became addicted to its powerful graphics and processors, the wii aint bad either i really dig the whole nunchuck idea and moving around: its very original

Re: Digital Power Struggle

My favourite platform is the 360 thats no surprise to anyone.

The 360 excels with a huge range of games, lots of exclusives and appeals to the hardcore gamers with the best online system too. Also has the advantage of being praised for outperforming the PS3 with a lot of multiplatform titles after people having trouble with the PS3 design tools. Its proved time and time again that despite claims that the PS3 is more powerful the 360 can perform just as well and even better in some cases.

The PS3 appeals to hardcore gamers but also the media obsessed people who buy hundreds of Blu Ray DVD's and use their PS3 as a media hub. Its ability to attach most hard drives to it is a great advantage though unneeded unless they want to store a lot of media on it. The games range isnt very good right now but the actual console itself will likely get better as time goes on. The new trend of having installs with most games to get the load speeds up to DVD standard would be a pain for those with the 20Gb hard drives though.

The Wii appeals to casual gamers and even people who wouldnt call themselves gamers. Nintendo had a genius idea with the motion sensor and appealing to a huge age range of people. Also the cheapest console to start with, though the 360 isnt that far away price wise.

Re: Digital Power Struggle

Wii is innovative and a rather original idea, methinks. Whereas it may lack in other areas it is the perfect console for all the family to enjoy and Nintendo have done pretty well for themselves with this one. They've managed to do what has has been tried in the past but failed and have done a lot in the way of attempting to corner the non-gaming market without them even realising they've been sucked in...genius...

Never played the PS3 so can't comment on capabilities or compare it technology-wise to another console but I think Sony have let themselves down, especially with the European market being sidelined in favour of America and Japan. Poor marketing, inferior consoles (compared to rest of the world) and lack of exclusive/major titles has lead to it becoming more of a pimped DVD player than a gaming console. Blu-Ray is something they did get right seeing as HD DVD has pretty much died, but I would have liked to see Sony build on the success of its previous consoles without trying to create some sort of super machine which invariably doesn't meet its own expectations. I love the PSOne and PS2 but I think Sony could have handled things better for the PS3.

I love my XBOX 360 but it's not without its flaws - namely the failure rate. With the newer versions of the console, this should hopefully be less of an issue but the XBOX 360 marketed itself well, nabbed plenty of decent titles and exclusives - namely getting DMC4 away from being a PlayStation-only game (although I am aware you can play on PC too), which I think was a kick in the teeth for Sony considering the huge fanbase the DMC series has. The interactivity of the XBOX 360 with the integration of XBOX LIVE seems to have just the right balance - you can socialise and game without the need for a virtual world or chatrooms. I do think it is lacking in family-friendly games and games for those under the age of 16, but then to be fair it does seem to be aimed more at the frequent gamer than casual.
