Earlier this week, George (community manager from Rare) and Sam (community manager from Lionhead) met up with Gamesradar to talk about the community and game development. You can find the entire interview here, including comments from Bungie, Bethesda and Epic as well!
GR: Do developers listen to gamers?
Sam: Yes, definitely - Lionhead listens to the community, to gamers, to the fans.....

Re: Do developers listen

:w00t: this is Awesome What a great find Markie +Rep

Another example is the 'sandgoose' in Fable. The sandgoose doesn't exist. It's basically a bird that speaks a native language and wanders in the desert. It was made up by the Lionhead community. They invented it and they created websites for it. They made it all up. But then that caused us problems because people were expecting to have a sandgoose in Fable, which obviously we never committed to doing. But everybody was talking about it and expecting it, so we did slip one line of dialogue in there at the very last moment. But now, in Fable 2, I can exclusively reveal that there's going to be a sandgoose. It won't be an actual bird talking in the desert, but there is a sandgoose.

I made it a news item

Re: Do developers listen

 Oh Noes! The Sandgoose! :O

Thats a bit ambiguous:unsure: They could get away with there just being a statue of one by just saying that:ninja:

Re: Do developers listen

SANDGOSSEY! :O  +REP for the find.... But kinda don't see the point of a goose.

Re: Do developers listen

Really good article and some interesting points well made by all the companies that were interviewed. +rep

Re: Do developers listen

good find sand goose is that big !!!! (200th post happy days)

Re: Do developers listen

I like hearing more about how the whole sandgoose thing started.

Just in case anyone doesn't remember the "one line of dialoge" It's from the filandering swine in the Oakvale introduction. He says "Come here my little Sandgoose"

Re: Do developers listen

Thats pretty lame... but taken in context of the last minuteness of it all is forgivable

Re: Do developers listen

Boy they really shot far for an animal.. I mean really.. A sandgoose?.. xDD I can't wait to see it!:D

Re: Do developers listen

I think some developers listen and some are just plain clueless, though if games won't sell they have to listen, So I think its sometimes the consumers fault. I just don't want a Gta lego game or Fable lego game, though that suddenly sounds interesting

Nice find:) +rep

Re: Do developers listen

After GDC 2008 , I thought to myself
I think Lionhead has done an excellent job of listening to the fans.

In the original fable and TLC people has criticized Lionhead for promising stuff and not delivering with fable 2 they (pm) didn't anounnce anythin till they got it in the game.

People also said the following about fable 1: In bold how Lionhead fixed it

Game is to short: Bigger gameworld with more options
You can't go everywere - Well now you can jump over stuff and fall of cliffs
Combat is boring - Combat is context sensitive and changes to your character
There is too little items - More classes of stuff, weapons etc
You can't be a woman - Not only can you be a woman, you can have kids
Why can't I swim- not announced, but hight maps make it possible
You can't plant a acorn:) Changing environments and seasons(though) not announced
I feel alone when I just run around and don't really have something to do - Jobs /Dog/Family
Game word is small and there is not enough variation/ Game world is about 1000X bigger

So they have listened :) yay
